5/1/13 - Currently ranked No. 12 in Illinois’ 2013 class and 66 overall. University of Illinois-Chicago recruit. Strong 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame with developed, powerful lower half. Aggressive plate approach with power right-handed bat. Went 1-for-3 with a walk and a long fly out to center field. He also pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save. Fastball ranged between 83-85 mph. Did not play the field due to hamstring issue. At the Super 60, was clocked at 84 mph from third base.
6/14/12 Ramirez is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound multi-positional athlete who looks to be one of the premier third basemen in the Class of 2013. Ramirez showed advanced skills in all facets of the game. Defensively, Ramirez exhibited soft hands while working through the ball with ease and displayed an accurate arm across the diamond with carry (84 mph). Ramirez showed smooth footwork while taking excellent angles to the baseball. Offensively, Ramirez possesses an explosive right-handed swing with a quiet front side as he stays balanced through the ball. Ramirez had arguably the best round of bp of the loaded event, consistently squaring up the baseball with backspin carry. On the mound, Ramirez throws over the top with solid rhythm and easy effort. He throws a heavy fastball that topped at 85 mph and a changeup with late sink and solid feel that sat at 74-75 mph. Shortly after the event, Ramirez verbally committed to UIC.
2/19/12 Ramirez is a 6-foot, 190-pound two-way player who opened eyes with his offensive prowess and defensive abilities at third base. He impressed defensively, with soft hands, concise footwork and solid arm strength (84 mph) from across the diamond. Offensively, Ramirez has a balanced setup and creates good whip through the zone with his strong upper body. He maintained good balance throughout his line drive swing. The ball jumps off his bat with carry and force. On the mound, Ramirez continued to impress. Operating from a high 3/4 arm slot, he has three different pitches: an 81-83 mph fastball with run, a 70-73 mph curveball, and a 72-76 mph changeup.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound third baseman had an eye-opening round of batting practice, spraying line drives to all fields. Ramirez showed quick hands at the plate and had excellent extension through contact . In the field, Ramirez exhibited good hands and a soft backhand while displaying a solid arm across the field at 79. On the mound Ramirez topped at 78 and showed a good feel for his changeup.
