4/19/24
A couple of other draft-eligible Louisville pitching prospects include Riley Phillips and Will Koger. Phillips is a low-90s lefty with a pair of hard breaking balls and swing/miss ability. His curve is the best of his two breakers, amassing a 65.6% whiff rate (100th percentile) this season. Somewhat surprisingly he wasn’t drafted last summer after a strong junior season with 46 strikeouts in 35 innings and a 3.82 ERA. This spring his ERA has ballooned to 6.56 despite maintaining his strikeout rate while lowering his walk rate.
3/16/19

6-foot-4, 170-pound two-way prospect with long levers, high waist, lanky/athletic frame, projection. Long, loose arm action, high ¾ arm action. Clean and easy actions, high knee at balance point, works on line, level shoulders, soft landing, lands slightly closed. Fastball, finish through the zone, four-seam straight type, occasional run, sat 82-85 mph in the first few innings; 81-83 mph in the fifth and final frame. Curveball, flashed sharp, occasionally underneath, swing-and-miss potential, 1/7 shape with depth, 67-68 mph. No-hit Coal City in five innings; recorded six strikeouts, two walks.

3/15/19

Uncommitted junior. 6-foot-4, 170-pound left/left prospect, long and lean with room for added strength, looks the part. Open setup, short stride to even, smooth pre-pitch. Long path with fluidity, goes with pitch location, can lift the ball. Aggressive baserunner, looked to move up. Comfortable at the bad, bad a touch over the shoulder play in tough conditions. Finished 1-for-3 with a triple deep to his opposite field gap and a run scored.
