PBR Illinois Player of the Week: OF/LHP Riley Phillips
April 17, 2019
Alton HS, junior outfielder and left-handed pitcher, Riley Phillips, has been named this week’s PBR Player of the Week thanks to his outstanding performance at the plate and on the mound for the Redbirds.
Phillips, who had an impressive showing at the 2019 PBR Metro East Kickoff Classic, put Alton on his back this week and helped lead them to a 4-1 record in their five games. The Redbirds went 3-1 on the week in Southwestern Conference play and got back to 8-8 on the season.
The uncommitted 6-foot-4, 170-pound, left-handed hitter did most of his damage at the plate. In the five games on the week Phillips went 10-for-17 (.588 BA), with three doubles, two triples and three home-runs. Phillips also knocked in 14, scored nine runs and walked twice, good for a .650 on base percentage.
Phillips also got a start on the mound against McCluer North (MO) where he twirled three hitless innings and struck out seven.
On the season Phillips is hitting .400 with five doubles, four triples, three home-runs, 22 RBI’s and 15 runs scored. On the mound, he has struck out 30 in 15.1 innings pitched.
