Michigan State commit, currently ranked No. 14 in the state. Imposing 6-foot-5, 190-pound frame, long-levered with plenty of room for more physical development, high waist. Got the start on the mound and threw it well over his five innings, scattering five hits with no earned runs, one walk and seven strikeouts. Easy and athletic mover, high leg-lift into a coiled balance point, works in-line with a drop/drive lower-half. Medium arm circle in the back, high ¾ slot with a loose and quick arm. Fastball worked 86-89 mph, held 86-87 mph throughout his outing, command was scattered early but he settled in nicely. Breaking ball has big 1/7 shape with some sweep in the 72-75 mph range, arm-side misses up and away to RHH at times, flashed out-pitch upside. High-ceiling arm with his best days still ahead.
The Michigan State commit struck out 11 of the 19 batters he faced against Bolingbrook. Caves picked up the win as he allowed one unearned run, two hits and one walk through four innings.
Verbally committed to Michigan State.
LHP Zane Caves (Minooka) was far and away one of the event’s biggest winners. In his two innings of work, the southpaw only allowed one hit with no runs, one walk and five strikeouts. He attacked the zone with his fastball, playing in the low-mid 80s, topping out at 87 mph with heavy arm-side run. His curveball has wipeout potential, playing consistently over 2,700 rpm around 70 mph with sharp downward action. He also showed a changeup that played in the low-70’s, playing with heavy arm-side fade with a similar profile to his fastball. High-level uncommitted arm.

Body: 6-5, 190.3-pounds.
Delivery: Stretch only, closed setup, high leg-kick that works into a coil, rides pre-bend in the back knee down the mound.
Arm Action: LH. Longer arm action and reach out of the glove, 3/4 release.
FB: T87, 77-85 mph. Deceptive with late life, elevated in zone. T2275, 2049 average rpm.
CB: 62-70 mph. Sharp 1/7 shape with depth, potential out-pitch. T2797, 2593 average rpm.
CH: 65-71 mph. Showed some downward action through the zone. T1930, 1750 average rpm.
