2/18/23

vs Oklahoma State: FB 92-95. CTR 86-87. SL 84. CB 73. Showed good stuff, struggled with control, walking 5 in 2 IP.

8/19/21

Strong and durable, Dutkanych pitches with a high-3/4 slot and a fastball that explodes out of his hand at 93-96. He throws quality fastballs in the zone to both sides of the plate. He has a hard slider at 83-86 with tight spin (2600), deception and sharp, late break and diving action. The changeup was 79-80 and thrown with good arm speed and sink with the bottom occasionally dropping out. He’s athletic and repeats his delivery well.

8/17/21

With his size, stuff and delivery, Dutkanych presents one of the top all-around starter profiles in the 2022 class. Projectable with present strength at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Dutkanych surrendered two runs on four hits in four innings across two appearances, but showed the ability to establish and get outs with his fastball, which ranged from 93-96. Usually an out pitch, his slider wasn’t at its best in his first outing, making his work with the fastball all the more important. It was 83-86 with tight spin, deception, late break and diving action in his second appearance. He also mixed in a 79-80 changeup that occasionally had the bottom drop out.

2/27/21

Vanderbilt commit. Has a strong athletic durable body. Shows some rigidness to his strength, although he is compact and sturdy. Has mature body actions, with a bulldog demeanor. He is all business type who pitches with a ‘put the hitter away’ mentality. Starts his delivery from the far-left side of the rubber with a ¾, short quick compact arm slot that creates very good arm speed. Has good range of motion to his shoulder that is firm. When he can repeat his delivery, the results are consistently with an above average, mid to high 90’s FB. This full throttle and aggressive style approach produces a strong finish and some life in the strike zone. The FB can get on hitters’ hands quickly, while he uses all four corners of the strike zone. He keeps his line well with a short landing strike. Has a hard slider with late tilt and sharp down action shape. Compliments all his pitches with a late fade Change up to complete his mix. Dutkanych will dominate with quality pitches, which can compete at high level now. Once he harnesses his command, he will elevate his chance to minimize his pitch counts. Strong chance to be a starter at the next level.

Body: 6-foot-3, 200-pound
FB: T96. 95-96 mph. (Max spin 2461;  Avg 2339)
CH: 81-84 mph
SL: 85-86 mph

9/13/20

Dutkanych, a Vanderbilt recruit and third ranked right-hander in the class, was highly efficient in a “ho hum” first outing of the fall for Team Indiana as he surrendered just one hit in five innings while striking out seven. With a workhorse frame that includes a noticeably strong lower-half and long torso at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, Dutkanych attacks hitters with a power mindset including challenging most predominantly with a fastball that was up to 93 mph (2350 RPM) in this outing. He overpowered hitters for the most part, and showed more intent to work in a power-changeup than in previous looks. The arm stroke is ultra-short, and almost catcher-like which allows the fastball to jump even more on the hitter as he works linear down the mound. The outing has quickly become “the norm” for Dutkanych who competes in the zone at all times, and is already a high-follow looking towards 2022.

6/08/20

Andrew Dutkanych IV, Brebeuf, 2022, IN

Position: RHP

Body: 6-foot-3, 210-pound lean frame

Pitching: Advanced. Drop-and-drive delivery, max effort. Over-the-top arm angle, quick arm speed, compact arm action. Strong balance point, even shoulders, lands square, a falling off finish.

FB: T93. 92-93 mph. Running action, in the zone accuracy, heavy movement.

CB: 75-76 mph. Sinking action, in the zone command, 12/6 movement.

CH: 81-83 mph. Tailing action, arm side command, tight movement.

SL: 82-83 mph. Sweeping action, glove side command, 2/8 movement.

3/07/20

Andrew Dutkanych IV: RHP, (2022) Brebeuf, IN. 6-foot-3, 205-pound workhorse frame. Advanced on the mound. Has a short, consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with lightning arm speed. Drives off the mound with some effort. Showed in line shoulders and an athletic balance point off the mound. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sharp slider (81-82 mph) that he can throw for both a strike and swing and miss .Fastball was clocked at 91-93 mph and topped out at 95 mph; lots of life. Threw a 73-75 curveball for a strike with some depth. Power changeup (80-83) with fade and some sink. Vanderbilt commit.

8/11/19

AREA CODE GAMES- Dutkanych did not allow a hit in his two innings of relief, working 89-92 in the first and more 87-88 in the second. There is some effort out front after a shorter arm stroke as he aggressively attacks hitters with a quick arm, and the ball jumps on the plate out of a high ¾ slot. Pitching mean, he has a “kill pitch” in a true, short-breaking slider that he rips off at 79-83, and he exhibits confidence throwing it to both right and left-handed hitters. In his second inning of work, he started the first batter with a right-on-right changeup that showed some fading action at 82 mph. That confidence to throw any pitch to any hitter stood out in his quick stint, and while he did walk a couple batters in his first inning, he also struck out a pair, so the ability to get his own outs is present. With three pitches that have a chance to be above average offerings, and a projectable, athletic, 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame, Dutkanych looks the part of a future starter, and has a chance to continue making quick progress moving forward.

6/8/19: INDIANA STATE GAMES- The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Dutkanych ran his fastball up to 93 mph, consistently sitting 88-92. He has sound mechanics with a quick, clean arm action. His slider sits in the upper 70s to low 80s with tight spin and late bite—a potential plus pitch in the future.

2/23/2019: Andrew Dutkanych IV, RHP/3B, Brebeuf HS, 2022, 6 foot 2, 185 pounds, continues to show high level ability, especially for his age. Has made a velocity jump from the fall as his FB sat 88-91 at this event. Changeup shows his feel for pitching and is a plus pitch with short fade life and sat 76-79. CB sat 72-73 with sharp down action and tight spin. Also showed a tight slider at 79-80 mph.

Fall 2018: Young RHP impressed during his lone inning of work. Clean mechanics and repeats well for age. Arm stroke is short and quick. Good tempo throughout delivery to plate. FB sat 84-86, T87 and pounded the zone. FB showed some arm side run at times. Showed good feel for CB at 68-71 for strikes and swing/misses. CH showed fade action at 74-76. High follow 2022 in Indiana.

7/24/18: High upside 2022 RHP prospect who projects well. Pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Repeats mechanics well for age. Arm action is loose and easy. Gets good extension out in front and works well downhill. FB showed good angle to the plate with some sink action at times. FB sat 80-82 T84. CB showed future out pitch potential. 11/5 shape with late action at 62-65. Also showed slider at 72-74. Extremely high upside 2022 who could be one of the top 2022 pitching prospects in the state.
