2/15/21

Ball State recruit. A durable athletic body ideal for a catcher. Strong powerful legs and strong throughout his shoulders with a barrel chest. Moves and shift well behind the plate as a catcher which also transfers to his 3B position. He has light feet and agility to his actions. Produced a 7.03-60 yard dash time. Dobbins showed a 1.80-1.93 pop time on throws to 2B (84 mph). Displayed good glove to hand transfer with quick release. Throws were accurate and precise. Has ability to be a hard hitting catcher/third baseman which is a valuable combo. Offensively, has an erect stance set up with a pre-load and power bat speed to ball that produces loud contact with balls driven gap to gap. He has good quick hands and squares up a high percentage of his swings. Power potential in the future. Tied for the top exit velocity of the day at 103 mph off the bat.

9/13/20

Ball State recruit. Dobbins was one of the big surprises of the weekend, as he collected six hits while showcasing some power from the right side. He has a barrel-chested, 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with fast hands and a flat path through the zone. There is minimal separation of thee hands in the set up as he gains momentum with a bigger leg kick/knee-knock before transferring weight to the front side in the pursuit. Dobbins worked gap-to-gap to collect his multiple hits, and might develop some more power to the pull side in the future. The durably-built catcher is a solid receiver with adequate arm strength and was right around a 2.0 with pop times between innings.

60 Time: 7.88, Position Velocity: INF-72,C-69 Exit Velocity: 80. Physical, 6-foot, 210 pound freshman backstop and corner infielder uses thick lower half and leverage to drive the baseball pull side. Uses a big leg kick to gather, load and stride, hands and barrel stay neutral but start in strong position with barrel working above helmet. Corner infielder, low ¾ arm slot across the diamond, inconsistent ball flight. More foot speed and range to play on left side. Behind the plate, one hand catch to throw, transfer is clean and quick to release, feet work average. Shoulders work uphill, tall to throw, more arm strength and better ball flight to be developed.
