+ Team Indiana rolled out an intriguing southpaw in relief in LHP Zach Behrmann (North Central HS, IN). The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Indiana recruit worked 87-90 over two innings while showing the ability to spin a sharp breaking ball that varied in shape in the mid 70s. As with many young arms with long limbs, he can get out of synch with his delivery. He hit one batter and walked another, but struck out three in his appearance.
2/16/2019: Zach Behrman, LHP, North Central HS, 2020, 6 foot 5, 200 pounds, has shown great improvement in the offseason, seeing his FB increase to 87-89 with good angle. Uses small head tilt to get to a high ¾ slot with a medium arm action. Also showed a nice tight slurve that sat 71-73 and had short 1/7 action. CH sat 79-81 with good sink. Will be interesting to see if he keeps making jumps going into the spring/summer.
6/12/18: Long and lanky 6’5 LHP. Pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Clean arm action that is loose and long, easy arm stroke that is quick. Good tempo to the plate and repeats mechanics well. Good balance throughout delivery and stays in line to the plate. FB showed good tilt to the plate at 79-81 T82 with more in the tank. Located FB to either side of the plate. Also flashed good CB with late sharp break for strikes at 68-70 that showed good depth. Nice upside 2020 to follow.
2017 Spring Scout Blog: Younger brother of Sam, the 6-foot-3, 155 pound freshman southpaw came in for relief for the Panthers. Long, lanky frame like his older brother. Easy effort, some rhythm down the mound. Average arm speed, clean arm swing. Fastball sat 73-75 with some sink to arm side. Curveball has 1/7 shape with downer action. Will be an interesting follow.
10/18/15: 5-foot-10, 140 pound lefty pitches from a high 3/4 slot with average arm speed. Short, loose arm action. good balance point, easy effort with smooth rhythm in the delivery. Lands square, athletic finish. Fastball was straight and thrown for a strike at 65-66. Breaking ball has a 1/7 shape, spinner type pitch. Changeup shows sink and fade at 63-64 and kept in the zone.
June 2020: Long and athletic bodied at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds Behrmann has an easy, downhill delivery. His arm action is loose and clean. He has average arm speed and oozes projection. With that stated, he was challenged to sync up his longs limbs and turn it into a consistent release point. He struggled with the command of his 88-92 mph fastball which spun in the 2000-2200 rpm range. His breaking ball showed promise with solid shape, tight spin (2400+ rpm) and 73-76 mph velo. He also showed an 80 mph changeup which is a work-in-progress. Behrmann graduated early from high school this past December to join the Hoosiers, but did not see action during the shortened spring. He looks to have the potential to one day front the Hoosier rotation and develop into a top round prospect in 2022.
