5/13/14 - We reported on Blake Peterson earlier this spring in an outing versus Topeka Seaman at Kauffman Stadium (see below). The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Peterson is three-sport star for Rural and a very interesting pitching prospect in the class of 2015. Today he bumped his top velocity up to 88 mph from the 85 we had him at earlier in the spring. His working velocity was in the 83-85 range. His 12-6 breaking ball was better as well throwing a number of them for called strikes with tight spin and shape at 72-74 mph. Peterson is now 6-1 on the season with a 1.82 ERA.
4/12/13 - Peterson is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher and three-sport athlete at Rural. Last spring he earned All-Centennial League honors for the Junior Blues. On Saturday, at Kauffman Stadium versus Topeka Seaman Peterson competed his way through five and two-thirds innings to pick up the win. He throws with a simple, slightly open delivery with short ¾ arm action. His fastball ranged from 82-85 mph with a number of 85’s early. He also threw a 70-73 breaking ball that was, at times, an effective second pitch for him.
