Veatch has elite athleticism attached to a highly projectable 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame. He’s run as fast as a 6.39 in the 60-yard dash at our events in the past, and it’s real impact speed that translates onto the diamond. Veatch repeats a short, uphill right-handed swing with relative ease, and it’s likely he’ll add more impact onto his barrel as he fills out his frame. Still uncommitted, Veatch is one of the top prospects still on the market in the class.
Body: 6-2, 165-pounds. Athletic build with present strength and athleticism.
Hits: RHH. Starts with a neutral setup with an athletic posture. Hands work quickly into position at shoulder height with a 45 degree barrel angle. Preloads the weight into the inside of the back knee. Short rocking load with a simple stride. Long levered swing with quick hands through the zone. Maintains balance and athleticism throughout the swing.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 82.3 MPH. 331' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-84 mph.OF-84 mph. High 3/4 arm slot with a long and loose arm action.
Defense: In the outfield attacks the ball with longer strides and aggressive routes. Fields the ball out in front of the glove side leg with a feel for glove action and clean transfers. Shuffle crow hop technique. In the infield attacks the ball with controlled rhythm and feel for routes working around the ball. Shows strong glove action and soft hands. Clean exchanges out of the glove.
