Matthew Hornbeck: OF/OF, (2021) St. James Academy, KS. 5-foot-11, 175-pound lean frame. During batting practice, Hornbeck recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph. Started in an athletic stance with a tight load, then used a controlled stride to start his swing. Had above average bat speed, level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found some barrels through his round. Gap to gap approach. Fluid from the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 75 mph; showed fluid feet, a clean exchange and sure hands. Had a long arm action and a high ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.03.
Hornbeck is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound, left-handed hitting outfield prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. Horbeck has a medium sized frame with long limbs. At the plate, balanced set up, shorter leg lift, in line stride, leverages front side, quiet hands, level bat path, showed contact to all fields during round. Defensively, Hornbeck is aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 71 mph, fairly accurate throws.

At the event he ran a 7.25 second 60 yard dash, 4.52 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, starts in an athletic stance, high hand position, simple load, in line stride, showed contact to all fields during batting practice. Defensively, Hornbeck is aggressive to the baseball, long clean arm action, clean transfers, momentum towards the target, high three-quarter release, positional velocity of 68 mph, fairly accurate throws.
6/19/18 - Hornbeck is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed throwing and hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class from St. James HS. He ran a 4.31 home-to-first and posted a 79 mph exit velocity.
