Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trails on June 19 at LaRoche Field in Fort Scott, Kansas.. Over 50 players in the 2023 t0 2019 classes from around Missouri and Kansas participated.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the outfielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

OUTFIELDERS

Beau Baumgardner OF / C / Emporia , KS / 2020

Baumgardner is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a  7.12 60 and a 4.62 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, he has a balanced set up, holds hands high, minimal load, controlled swing with no wasted movement in body, level path, works inside ball, mostly middle of the field contact.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.03 and 2.19-seconds, 70 mph positional velocity, wide base in set up, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer with clean exchange, mostly accurate throws to the bag at second. In the outfield, 80 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, plays through the ball with clean exchange and fluid footwork.

Corey Bradford OF / Park Hill, MO / 2019

Bradford has an athletic build and strong 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. He ran a 7.06 60 and a 4.39 home-to-first while posting an 85 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, Bradford starts with an open stance, shows good rhythm into his load, quick hands and the ball jumps off the barrel during contact. Defensively, Bradford has an over the top release, shows good footwork, momentum towards the target, and fairly accurate throws.

Joshua Darrenkamp OF / LHP / Maize South , KS / 2022

Darrenkamp is a 5-foot-5, 125-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2022 class from Maize South HS. He ran a 4.56 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During hitting evaluations, Darrenkamp starts in an open stance, toe tap load, loose hands, showed contact to the middle and pull side of the field. Defensively, has a ¾ arm slot, clean transfers, positional velo of 68 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Matthew Hornbeck OF / OF / St. James Academy, KS / 2021

Hornbeck is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed throwing and hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class from St. James HS. He ran a 4.31 home-to-first and posted a 79 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, Hornbeck shows a quiet load, in line stride and balance throughout his swing. Defensively in the outfield, works behind the baseball, over the top arm slot, good footwork, positional velo of 66 mph and fairly accurate throws.

Brenner Maloney LHP / OF / Liberty North , MO / 2019

Maloney is a 6-foot, 190-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran 4.69 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 89 mph. During batting practice, Maloney starts in a balanced open stance, leg lift to load, contact to the middle and opposite field. Defensively, Maloney has fluid footwork to the baseball, clean transfers, over the top arm slot, positional velo of 83 mph with mostly accurate throws.

Ashton McCombs OF / SS / Olathe South, KS / 2022

McCombs is an athletic 5-foot-8, 126-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.43 home-to-first and posted a 68 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, McCombs starts with a slightly open stance, good rhythm into his load, flat bat path and showed some pop throughout his round. Defensively, McCombs showed good actions in the outfield, over the top arm slot, positional velo of 69 mph and fairly accurate throws.

Corey McCready OF / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021

McCready is 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed pitcher, infielder and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.90 home-to-first and posted a 75 mph exit velocity. During batting practice, McCready has a balanced set up, abbreviated leg kick, quiet load, flat barrel path. In the outfield, he shows fluid footwork to the baseball, clean transfers, positional velo of 70 mph and mostly accurate throws. Defensively on the infield, McCready moves well, momentum towards first base, clean arm action, positional velo of 67 mph and very accurate throws.

Jayce Meyer LHP / OF / Maize South, KS / 2020

Meyer is a projectible 6-foot-1, 150-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder from Maize South HS. At the event he ran a 5.00 home-to-first and a posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Meyer starts with an open and balanced stance, leg kick, leverages up his front side, showed some feel for the barrel with contact to middle and pull sides of the field.  Defensively, Meyer has good footwork, clean transfers, momentum towards the target, clean arm action, ball carries, positional velo of 74 mph and accurate throws.

Drew Norris OF / RHP / Blue Valley, KS / 2022

Norris is a slender and projectible frame at 6-foot, 145 pounds and is a member of Kansas’ 2022 class from Blue Valley HS. He ran a 4.69 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 72 mph. During batting practice, Norris uses an abbreviated leg lift to get to his load, in line stride, finishes with his hands high. Defensively in the outfield, he works behind the baseball, high ¾ arm slot, momentum towards his target, positional velo of 78 mph with accurate throws

Carson Reeves OF / 2B / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2022

Reeves is a 5-foot-6, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfield in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 7.11 60 and a 4.37 home-to-first, while posting an exit velocity of 75 mph. During batting practice, Reeves starts with an open stance, uses a toe tap into his load, remains balanced throughout and had a middle to opposite field approach. Defensively, Reeves has an aggressive approach to the baseball, high ¾ arm slot, momentum towards his target, positional velo of 72 mph and mostly accurate throws.

Owen Reynolds OF / LHP / Eisenhower, KS / 2021

Owen Reynolds is a 5-foot-11, 145-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.53 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. During hitting evaluations, Reynolds showed a connected swing, solid contact to the middle of the field, quick hands, flat barrel bath. Defensively, Reynolds showed athleticism, clean transfers, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 76 mph, very accurate throws.

Carson Shoop OF / OF / Pleasant Hill , MO / 2020

Shoop is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 4.72 home-to-first and posted a 74 mph exit velocity. During hitting evaluations, Shoop shows some athleticism with an aggressive swing, starts with an open stance and gets extension through the baseball. Defensivley in the outfield, Shoop shows a quick arm, over the top arm slot, momentum to the target, positional velo of 70 mph and mostly accurate throws.

Peter Simon OF / LHP / Rockhurst , MO / 2020

Simon is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class from Rockhurst HS. Simon is a plus runner with a 6.75 60 and a 4.16 home-to-first. His exit velo was 83 mph. During batting practice, Simon starts with an open stance, good balance and high hands finish high. Defensively in the outfield, he moves well, high ¾ arm slot, clean arm action, positional velo of 79 mph and accurate throws

John Weedman OF / RHP / Shawnee Mission East, KS / 2020

Weedman is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.14 60, 4.88 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Weedman showed a violent swing with good bat speed, hard contact, a knee pinch load and extension through the baseball. Defensively in the outfield, Weedman is aggressive to the baseball, over the top arm slot, clean transfers, momentum to target, positional velo of 79 mph and fairly accurate throws.
