Shane Benes flexed his muscles with two home runs in game one of the Midwest Future Games, and drove in four over the course of the weekend, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Defensively Benes is a smooth fielding shortstop with good footwork and a accurate arm, who is versatile enough to play second or third.

Summer '16: Transferred from Missouri to Drury.

Summer '18: Transferred to St Louis Univ.

10-3-2018: Fifth-year senior transfer from Drury University after sitting out last season. Showed plus plus raw power in batting practice, then turned it into power production during the game. Belted three home runs on the evening, while also adding a double to left-center and muscling a line drive single into right field. Accounted for seven of the 11 RBI for the Billikens during the double-header. The first HR was wind-aided as he lifted a hanging curveball out to center field. The two others were destroyed. One was a majestic, towering three-run bomb to left field. The other, he dropped the bat head on a 91 mph fastball down in the zone for a line drive bolt to left center. The only question as it left the infield was if it was going to be high enough to clear the fence. Defensively, he played third base, but profiles best at first base with funky arm action and a below average arm. Despite two major knee injuries, Benes provides hard to find, top of the scale power and big league bloodlines (son of ex-MLer Andy Benes). With a strong senior season, look for pro clubs to consider Benes as a Day Two money saving senior pick in the 2019 draft. (Seifert)
