Defense: 1B. Showed some comfort coming off the bag. Footwork is work in progress around the bag. Presents a big target for his infielders and receives the ball well.
Arm: RH. 84 mph. Carry on his throws. High 3/4 arm slot.
Hit: RHH. Starts in a wide, slightly opened stance. Hands start in a slow rhythm at the center of his body. Significant hand load with a small weight transfer to his back side, followed by a small stride. Has an efficient hand path into the zone with natural lift out of the zone. Slightly rotational swing that forces his bat to leave the zone early. Has a high two handed finish. Impressive power during his BP round as he left the yard to CF. Did show gap to gap power potential as well.
Power: 100 mph Exit Velocity via TrackMan.
Run: 7.60 Laser Timed

Profile: The 2022 arm came to the Top Prospect event fresh off of a standout performances at the 2020 Future Games. A thick built two-way prospect whose future will most likely be on the mound sat in the mid to upper 80’s. Avery still possesses raw attributes on the mound that could turn into higher upside once they are cleaned up.

Body: 6-foot-3, 220 pounds. Thick, athletic build. Proportionate throughout his frame. Athletic for his size.

Delivery: Starts tall on far left side of the rubber. Hands begin at his belt. Slow, rhythmic delivery. Big swinging leg kick into a tall/tilt delivery. Does have some inconsistency with his hand break causing his arm to drag. Level shoulders at release with quality extension over his front side. Lands on line to home with a slight finish to the 1B side.
Arm Action: Quick, extra loose arm. High 3/4 arm slot. The looseness in his arm does cause some inconsistencies in the zone, but when his timing is on, he is very effective.

FB: Max 87 mph. Sat 85-65 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 2201 RPM. Creates some downhill action. Flashes of cut. Locates around the zone and when he commands inside the zone, the cut/run combo proves very effective.

CB: 74-76 mph. Avg. Spin Rate - 2505 RPM. 11/5 shape with some late bite. More effective the farther he gets it out front.

Arm Action: High 3/4 arm slot. Long, loose arm action.

FB: Max 89 mph. 84 – 88 mph. 1867 - 2238 RPM. Downhill action. Flashes some cut.

CB: 71 - 72 mph. 1873 - 2053 RPM. Some late bite. Effective when he releases it out front.

CH: 77 – 79 mph. 1738 – 1854 RPM. Work in progress. Flashes potential with some arm side sink and fade.

Large frame, 6-foot-2 205, Avery has reliable first base actions and a feel for footwork around the bag on coverages following double play feeds. His long ¾ arm action slows his exchange on feeds but arm strength makes up for some of the delay. At the end of the day, his bat will carry him.  He maintains a prototypical power approach, setting up with high hands with a naturally lofted swing and serious power potential. He manages the length in his swing making consistent quality contact.

Avery has the prototypical pitcher body with some mass in his lower half and room for weight and strength gains. His ¾ arm action is loose and whippy, displaying solid hand and arm speed. His fastball topped out at 81, but by admission had thrown the day before. His curveball had nice shape and occasional bite in spite of lite velocity. He showed some feel for a changeup that came in at 66-69. Avery is a projectable right-hander with a high ceiling.
