5-foot-10, 175 pound OF, Novenche showed quick hands and next level power in two games. He homered in game 1 vs. Burnt Hills and hit a long double in game 2 vs. Averill Park. Transitioning to the OF a work in progress.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Sturdy 5-foot-10, 175-pound catcher, ran a 7.06/60. Offensively - effective load with appropriate pre-pitch movement, compact swing with an exit velocity of 86 MPH, keeps bats on level plane through the zone, comfortable driving ball to middle third, uses quick hands to turn on inside pitch; lower body engagement will produce more power. Defensively - stays low through the receiving process with smooth, comfortable transfer, accurate arm with a POP time of 1.93-2.06.
6.28.2017
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher/outfielder/infield. Versatile athlete who worked out in the outfield and behind the dish. In the outfield, threw 81 mph out of a short arm path. The arm showed strength and carry to it. Plays solid in the outfield, corner outfield only. In the infield, threw 78 mph across the diamond. The glove is solid, footwork needs to be taught as prep steps to and through the ball are imperative. Behind the dish is where is belongs, in my opinion. Threw 74 from behind the dish, but the slot is short and simple making the transfer much easier for him than most. Pop time of 1.91 in the defensive portion. Accuracy was solid in the workout. Ran a 4.47 down the line on his dig to first base as well. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 90 mph to it. Sets up even with his feet to start, stays in his legs throughout the swing. Small pick up and put down of the front foot as the ball approaches. The hands are relaxed and direct to the ball to start the swing. Solid prospect with a chance to hit at the college level, could be an offensive catcher.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
May 2017
Showed a solid approach at the plate, tripling early and then staying on a 2-strike breaking pitch to line out to centerfield. The foot speed is excellent for a catcher and the bat ( hand) speed at the plate is plus.
April 2017
Plus hand speed at the dish. The frame projects to hit as his arms are short and he has a simple setup.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Eastern NY All-Star Games (September 13, 2015)
Stands at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, with an athletic body build. Defensively – As a catcher he receives the ball with smooth, soft hands and has a clean transfer. He blocks the ball nicely and keeps everything in his front vision. Very quick footwork and his pop times were consistently at 1.94 down to second base. Offensively - At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced (Slightly open), short toe touch stride, with a back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level to upward tilt plane, goof full extension through the ball, and has a shoulder high finish. With a good exit velo, he has potential to put up good numbers.
Capitol Region Open (July 29, 2015)
At a showcase flooded with upper-class catchers, Novenche solidified himself as one of the best. Standing a strong 5-foot-9, 170-pounds the rising sophomore was a consistently under 2.0 (1.88 best) down to 2nd base from a high 3/4 slot. Plus arm strength at 81mph. He showed an above average transfer and framing ability. Would like to see his glove be horizontal in his setup. Aggressive in his pop. At the plate his setup is slightly open and shoulder width apart. Gets back to even with a short heel for timing. Bath path is direct to the ball with lift. Full hip rotation and high balanced finish. Interesting player to watch for, as he matures and gains strength.
