A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average

Physical: 5-foot-10, 150 pounds; Lean, average build. 7.4 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a flat swing path with a two handed finish. More line drives than fly balls and ground balls with a peak exit velocity of 81 MPH via Trackman. Defensively: Starts with a low to the ground setup; uses prep hop while showing active feet. Hands are out in front with a clean transfer. Moderate arm circle from a high 3/4 arm slot. INF - 76 MPH. Pitching: Uses a glove side setup while using a side step. Mid chest leg drive with shoulders above the hips. Has a moderate stride while landing slightly closed. Moderate arm swing while showing some scap load; standard 3/4 slot. Square to the plate with finish. FB: Peak velo of 82 MPH, while sitting 78-81 MPH; commands both sides. CB: 61-63 MPH; slurve like action. CH: 68-69 MPH; runs.
7/28/21
Physical: Proportional, lean 5-foot-10, 145lb frame. 7.86 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Upright, slightly offset and closed stance with some pre-pitch rhythm in the hands. Utilized a knee to knee stride to initiate a flat, sudden path into the hitting zone towards a high two-handed finish. Maintained direction well through a simple approach, hitting behind the ball at impact with some feel for the top hand in the swing. Produced a T76 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak good enough for singles power at the moment, and added a 46% line drive rate (via Trackman).
Defensively: The infielder bounced around in the prep step, arriving with adequate pace to the ball with an on-time, shoulder-width base at the setup. Bent from a medium/lower posture at the waist, keeping the chest and eyes down over the ball, fielded softly, and released with intent over the front-side (¾ slot, 76 mph arm, accurate).
Pitching: RHP - Started off the center of the rubber using quick pace in the delivery. Slight hip coil at the top of the stack (just above waist height) as he sunk into the right leg before getting lateral through the pitch at release (H ¾ slot). The FB ranged from 75-77 mph with ability to add in a hard-sweeping 60-61 mph CB (17 inches HM) with tough action into the zone.

Physical: 5-foot-10, 145 pounds; Broad shouldered, slender build. 7.7 runner in the 60. Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; upright bat position. Loads straight back with a slight leg-kick for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing a strong lower half. Showed a slight lift to the ball with a two handed finish. More flyballs than line drives and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 78 MPH via Trackman. Defensively: Starts with a low to the ground setup; uses prep hop while covers ground laterally. Hands are out in front with a seamless transfer. Short take back from a standard 3/4 arm slot. INF - 70 MPH. Pitching: Johnston uses a center rubber setup while using a side step. Belt high leg drive with shoulders above the hips. Has a moderate stride while landing slightly closed. Moderate arm swing while effortless with fluidity, while working through a standard 3/4 slot. Square to the plate with finish. FB: Peak velo of 78 MPH, while sitting 74-77 MPH; commands both sides. SL: 61-63 MPH; short action.
Offensively: RHH. Sets up with feet shoulder width apart and in an upright stance. High set hands that work back and down during the load. Rocks slightly onto the rear leg as he goes through a toe tap for a timing mechanism. Generates some torque as he prepares to attack. Slightly downhill bat path with a high one handed finish.
Defensively: SS. Uses a hop as a prep step and pitch is being delivered. Maintains a low chest angle as ground ball approaches. Bends at the knees to field the ground ball with hands out in front. Funnels the ground ball to belt line and makes the exchange there. Shuffles towards his target. The arm is direct to target as it begins to work forward.
Pitching: Sets up on the middle of the rubber with hands at chest height. Hands go down and up again as the lower half goes through the rocker step and leg lift. The leg lift is to waist height and sets up a strong lower half drive down the mound. On glove break the arm goes down and back, is direct to target as it works forward.
