The 6-foot right hander made the Game 2 start for the Sooners against the Arizona Wildcats. He seemed to be throwing from a slightly higher slot than my last look at the 2020 Shriners Hospitals College Classic at Minute Maid. With a long, extended arm path in back (reminds me of former MLer Andy Sonnastine) and early show in front the hitters got a good look and were able to lay off what is otherwise plus stuff. Wyatt whips the ball through from a low three-quarter slot producing elite fastball spin rates in the 2600-2700 rpm range at 93-96 mph. However, his best pitch is a nasty breaking 84-86 mph slider with spin rates into the 2600s. At its best, the breaker is a late biting, swing/miss offering. The best did not happen enough as Olds struggled to touch the outside corner, instead missing repeatedly out of the zone. At the pro level he profiles as a later inning reliever with two plus offerings. His stuff could further be augmented by dropping back down to a lower, sidearm slot where his high spin heater could become even more of a rise ball. How high he is selected this summer will be dictated by his strike-throwing and out-getting success this spring. Typically, relievers like him are considered in the 3rd-5th rounds and despite his slight 180-pound build, Olds should be no different, especially to a club who values TrackMan data and develops accordingly.
10/17/2016
A 6-foot, 170-pound athletic build. Works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with good rhythm and athleticism. Olds gets long and extended in the back and underneath the baseball before whipping his arm through at a just above side arm slot, and a violent finish. Fastball sits 87-89 with massive arm side run and sink. Slider has 10/4 shape with late depth, backs up at times. One of the best arms in Oklahoma’s 2018 class.

A 6-foot, 170-pound athletic build. Works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with good rhythm and athleticism. Olds has a long arm stroke in the back before whipping his arm through at a just above side arm slot, and a violent finish. Fastball sits 87-89 with massive arm side run and sink. Slider has 10/4 shape with late depth, backs up at times, 73-77 mph. Easily one of the best arms in Oklahoma’s 2018 class. Olds struck out five of the six batters he faced in two innings, not allowing a hit.
3/6/18
Olds stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds with some quick-twitch athleticism and long limbs. He pitches with a controlled, deliberate delivery before striding down the mound with quality leg drive. The arm action is long and loose in the back, coming through a nearly sidearm slot with electricity and whip. The fastball shows hard, consistent run. In the first inning, he ranging from 90-93, touching 95, and settled in at 90-92 through the third. In the fourth, he was 88-90. The fastball was erratic at times, but would find the bottom of the zone. The slider shows lateral movement at 80-83 and he has some control of the pitch.
4/5/19: At 6-foot, 166-pounds, Olds has a lean, loose, athletic frame that has capacity to add strength and mass with continued physical development. Only a freshman, Olds put his electric arm on display from the first pitch of his outing. Working almost exclusively fastball/slider, Olds made quick work of the six batters he faced in his 1.2 innings pitched. Olds fastball was consistent 94-95 (T 96 3x) flashing life as it enters the hitting zone. He manipulated his release point at times to get some diving action on the pitch at the same velocity which provided hitters yet another look. Olds flashes a two-seamer at 89 that would dive at hitters feet, throwing the pitch only sparingly in this outing it was a nice change of pace. Olds was able to set up hitters with his wipeout slider at 87-88 mph. He used it as his out pitch on his one strikeout and was used to induce two of the three groundouts he registered. (Lukach)
