3/15/24

Showed off the elite combination of arm talent and feel for pitches in the Big 12 opener against BYU. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound righty has a super quick arm with clean and compact arm action. Highly athletic and aggressive, he constantly pitches with something to prove. Working quickly, he flashed his entire arsenal to a steady BYU lineup that included a mid-90s fastball that touched 96 with some ride at the top of the zone. He also showed a plus changeup on both sides of the plate, consistently missing barrels with its depth. Major dealt a sharp 87-89 mph slider (2400+ RPM) that broke through multiple planes while inducing several off-time swings. After allowing two home runs to the middle of the Cougar lineup, Major rallied to strike out eight batters in eight innings, while walking just one.

Cape CodA reliable bullpen arm for the Mountaineers this past spring, Major made six appearances, all starts this summer for Wareham. His arm action is clean and quick to go along with a simple, repeatable and on-line delivery. The 5-foot-11 right-hander’s fastball was reported to be in the upper 90s this summer, but was more 92-94, topping out at 95 during my look. Additionally, it was mostly straight, showing just fair ride through the zone from a high three-quarter release. Major shows feel for three off speed offerings with his changeup as his top secondary pitch during this look. It graded near average on the pro scale with fade and late bottom. He also threw two tight-spinning breakers. His best was an 85 mph slider against right handed hitters, while he struggled to stay on top and catch his 77-79 curve out front. This summer he struck out 25 in 23 innings, while allowing 24 hits for a 6.35 ERA. Major is also a good athlete who fields his position well.

Very talented player with two-way potential. On the bump the right-hander has an explosive delivery with obvious arm talent. Ran it up to 87 mph with an above average breaking ball. Had some issues finding the zone but the stuff was electric at times. At the plate he has a smooth, efficient load with a nice, level stroke through the zone. Similar to delivery swing is explosive and generates easy gap abilities with signs of power to come down the road. High follow.
