Notes

Comments

10/01/22

Physical: Wiry athletic 5-foot-10, 150lb frame with room to fill.

Pitching: RHP. Starts off the far left side of the rubber; short side-rocker step, as the leg works up to a tall position at the top of the stack. Maintains some bend off the drive leg, creating a spring on the move down the slope. The FB ranged 75-78, T79 mph (2304) from a lower release-height, mixing a sharp upper-60’s CB for swing/miss, up to 18 inch HM.

6/12/22

Physical: Lean, athletic 5-foot-10, 150lb frame with feel for his body.

Pitching: RHP. Begins off the left side of the rubber with some drop/drive to the delivery. Really sits into the backside with hip/shoulder separation allowing for deception on 78-81, T82 mph FB to both sides. Added advanced 70-72 mph CB at 2600+rpms, gaining easy two plane shape and killed a mid-70’s CH for the third offering. Strike thrower.

2/12/22

Physical: 5-foot-10, 150 pounds; Lean, muscular build. 7.42 runner in the 60.

Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing a strong lower half. Showed a downward swing path with a two handed finish.  More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 83 MPH via Trackman.

Defensively: Starts with an upright /tall setup; uses prep hop while displaying fluid actions to the baseball. Hands are off to the side with a clean transfer. Long arm swing from a high 3/4 arm slot.   OF - 82 MPH.

Pitching: Uses a glove side setup while using a side step. Mid chest leg drive with a slight coil away from the plate. Has a long stride landing inline with the plate. Long arm swing while showing no restrictions; high/over the top slot. Recoils with finish. FB: Peak velo of 81 MPH, while sitting 79-81 MPH; straight action. CB: 69-70 MPH; 12-6 shape. SL: 71-72 MPH; short action. CH: 77-78 MPH; maintains sameplane.

8/03/21

Physical: Lean, wiry 5-foot-10, 145lb frame with room to add. 7.29 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Narrow, slightly bent stance as the hands start high. Utilized a short, quick toe-tap stride to initiate the bat head through a flat, direct path towards an immediate lifted finish. Produced a lofty approach during batting practice (62% fly ball rate via Trackman) with the ability to hit behind the ball successfully. Reached a T82 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak en route to a near 290 foot distance for occasional gap to gap, doubles power. Top of the order type skillset that finds a way to land on the barrel.

Defensively: The outfielder generated advantageous routes to the ball, working swiftly from right to left, then down through the window. Fielded cleanly and got rid from a lower posture, releasing on-time and accurately from a H ¾ slot (76 mph arm).

Pitching: RHP - The righty worked fast on the bump, repeating a compact, balanced delivery with a quick arm at the release (H ¾ slot). Landed in-line to the catcher, holding his line to the mitt and pounded the zone with a 76-79 mph FB. Mixed a sharp 63-65 mph CB with two-plane feel at times, and gained fade on a 1973rpm CH with good sell (73-75 mph).

1/14/18 Defensively, developing, young player shows soft hands. He would benefit from being more aggressive in playing through the ball and following throws.

Offensively, initiates swing from with neutral set up and stride while staying neutral. Back foot is slightly open in stance. There is considerable hand movement with high start followed by dropping and working back up to slot. Hip turn is passive. Benefit would be gained by overall greater incorporation of lower half. Complexity of mechanics should play better with strength and coordination gains imminent in association with physical maturation.

On the mound, Young, developing pitcher works out mid 3/4 arm slot demonstrating early ability to repeat delivery. FB sat 51-52. Nightingale can expect short term velocity and command progression correlative to impending strength gains.
