Body: 6’4’’, 175 pounds. Long, lean, athletic, projectable frame. Delivery: Really quick side-step and up-tempo delivery with a high leg kick into a tall balance point. Quick kick-out stride down the mound and clean hand separation. Lands closed to the plate creating some cross-fire action. Engages the lower half and gets over the front side with an athletic finish. Has a tendency to finish more upright at times. Arm Action: RH. Throws with long, whippy arm action from a low to mid three-quarter slot with light effort. Creates quick arm speed through release with extension. FB: T83 mph, 79-82 mph. Ball comes out loose and easy with some late life. Average spin rate of 2016 rpm per TrackMan. CB: 69-74 mph. Gradual 11/5 shape with an average spin rate of 2126 rpm per TrackMan. SL: 70-73 mph. 10/4 sweeping shape.
7/15/20
Physical: Athletic and projectable 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame with an understanding of how to pitch and get hitters out, competes on the bump.
Pitching: RHP - Has sped up his delivery recently with a quick pace, side rocker step towards a medium leg lift at the waist, gets directional towards the plate with slight downhill plane on an 81-83 mph FB (2121 spin per Trackman Baseball) out of a loose and fluid, high ¾ slot. Mixed in a tight 72-74 mph CB with 11/5 shape and occasional two-plane action. Countered with solid feel for a differently shaped SL at 70-71 mph with more horizontal bite to it.
6/18/19
6-foot-3, 170-pound righty sat 80-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a chin high knee stack and hip swivel action to his delivery. Fastball showed heavy action early on and curveball at 69-72 with 11/5 rotation had swing and miss action at times. Changeup at 74-75 is thrown at near fastball arm speed with little movement. Projectable frame and unique delivery makes Burkholder an interesting follow in this class.
2/16/19
6-foot-3, 175-pound righty, coming off of a basketball playoff game the day before, sat 83-85 out of the wind-up with a high leg kick and pronounced hip coil to his delivery. The arm action is long and the delivery creates significant deception with arms and legs coming at the hitter. The curveball also showed promise with above average 11/5 rotation at 68-72. Burkhholder does not throw a changeup at this point. It will be interesting to get a look at his prospect once he round into baseball form later in the spring and summer.
