2/20/22

Physical: An athletic, strong body keeps getting better at 6-foot-2, 200lbs.

Offensively: RHH - Balanced, low-pulse stance that starts even, as the hands operate high by the head, tilted slightly forward. Utilized a leg-lift stride up/down to initiate the swing through an uphill path into the hitting zone. Sits on the backside leg well and rotates through impact, extending for a middle of the field approach. Recorded a loud 97 mph bat-exit velocity with wood during BP and added a 358 foot batted ball distance with easy pull-side juice. Just rounding into what he can be offensively.

Defensively: The third baseman featured a hop in the prep-step and good routes to the ball. Was able to play with increased depth for range and let a soft glove hand play accurately inside/outside the frame. Notched an 84 mph throwing arm from his position (H ¾ slot).

Pitching: RHP - Began off of the middle of the rubber showing slower pace in the delivery. Balanced stack position at waist height and got over the front-side well at release with some heavy action on the FB (83-84 mph). The strike-thrower mixed a comfortable low-70’s breaking ball with sweep and an above-average 72-74 mph CH that landed for K’s. Two-way projection.

3/06/21

Physical: 6’1 190lb 3B/RHP ran an 8.08 laser timed 60 yard dash. An improved physical frame has allowed for increase in production over the last few years.

Offensively: He starts in a wide stance with his back leg turned in with a pre loaded stance. His front foot starts open before striding back to neutral. His swing path is slightly uphill and through the ball.

Defensively: He uses active feet as he approaches the ball and presents the pocket of his glove before receiving the ball in a funneling motion. He has a short quick arm action, with the ability to throw from multiple arm angles.

Pitching. He stays controlled throughout the winduo before using rear hip drive to explode through the pitch. Seems to keep his movements smooth and easy throughout hsi motion. His arm works OTT and downhill to his target.

1/06/18

1/6/18 Hands are soft while playing ball out front. Transfers are clean and throwing motion is short and compact. Arm strength is well above average for age. There is considerable strength and an overall advanced skill set as 12 year old.

On mound worked out of high 3/4 arm slot with short arm action. Costello lands excessively closed with associated blocking of hip rotation shortening follow through. Arm action is short with considerable effort present. FB sat 63-65 with subtle arm side run. CB at 52-53 had 11-5 action and was commanded well. CH was thrown with good sell and arm side fade a 58-59 mph. Costello showed ability to consistently throw strikes with both FB and secondary pitches.

While young player showed ability in all areas the hit tool is most advanced. Swing is initiated from neutral set up with aggressive leg kick. There is excellent weight shift and aggressive hip turn. Bat is on plane early and late. Hands are very quick and work directly to baseball. There is some early hand leak out of load. At his young age an impressive 78 mph bat exit velocity was recorded.
