Strong hands at contact and sits back on his finish, staying behind his front side. Willems has solid arms strength for his class, which translates onto the mound, and behind the plate, where he threw with a top velocity from the crouch of 80 mph, with pop times ranging from 1.92-2.11.

11.04.18
Willems has a strong, barrel-chested frame at 6-foot-1, 215-pounds. The right-hander topped out at 90 on the bump, sitting mostly 87-88, with a 78 mph curveball and 78-79 mph changeup. Working from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke and tall-and-fall delivery, he creates good angle on his fastball, flashing sink to his arm side. Curveball has tight rotation with late break at times. A two-way player and left-handed hitter, Willems starts from a wide, slightly open stance, then rocks back as he triggers his hands back and upward, tilting his shoulders as he takes a short stride. Strong hands work on a mostly flat path through the zone with a high finish that produced hard contact and carry to the pull side with a top exit velocity of 94 mph. His arm strength showed well behind the plate, producing true carry through the bag with a top velocity from the crouch of 79 mph and pop times ranging from 1.93-2.04.

5-foot-10, 195-pound, strong frame for his class. The two-way player is a switch hitting catcher. From the left side, Willems starts with his hands in front of his midline, smooth load back with his upper body into a short stride. Quick hands to contact with a short, clean path, barrel works well out in front. Simple weight shift through contact with some lift and above average bat speed for his class (86 mph off the tee). On the right side, Willems has a similar hand position, smooth-early load back. Throws the barrel with his top hand, hard contact during batting practice, cuts himself off at finish. Overall, Willems has strong hands, good barrel awareness and made hard contact from both sides of the plate. Defensively, behind the plate, he has a quick exchange with average footwork and soft hands. Accurate thrower with pop times ranging from 2.11-2.23 and a 70 mph velocity from the crouch.

On the mound, the right-hander works from a ¾ slot with a long arm stroke and reach out of the glove. Tall-and-fall delivery with a shorter stride and upright finish. His fastball ranged from 77-79 mph, flashing arm-side run. His curveball has good 11/5 shape with a shorter break when he gets on top at 64-66 mph. Showed feel for his changeup during warm ups.
