Thompson's long 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame oozes projection. Clean tempo on the mound, the southpaw, is aggressive down the hill, stays compact with arm, quick in the back, short 3/4 up top. Fastball has jump out of the hand, ranged 85-87 mph, showed slider and curveball both at 70-72, varies in shape between the two and visible intent. Changeup at 76-79 shows good fade.

Thompson has come a long way over the last calendar year. At 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, the left-hander has added strength to his athletic frame, allowing his velocity to climb, and for his off speed pitches to increase in consistency. Locates his fastball to both sides of the plate at 83-85. His breaking ball continues to tighten up with command and shape at 66-69 mph, and is an effective pitch that allows his fastball to appear firmer. He throws his changeup with fastball arm speed and quality arm side depth at 76-79 and is really tough on right-handed hitters.

Thompson has a high-waisted frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. The left-hander works from a low-¾ slot with a medium arm stroke. Creates deception in his delivery as he hides the ball well. Tends to pronate on release which creates heavy sink on his fastball that was 80-83 mph. His changeup has good arm side fade at 74-75 mph. Also throws a slider with more lateral-slurve 2/8 shape and action at 70-72.

Thompson has a high-waisted, long-limbed, projectable frame for a sophomore at 6-foot, 165-pounds. The left-hander works from ¾ slot with a long arm stroke. Delivery has good energy, some deception and regular effort. Fastball has some movement at 78-80 mph. Spins his curveball from 64-66 mph. His changeup flashes arm side depth at 71-72 mph.
