A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.

Prep Baseball All-American Game: A powder keg of an athlete, Burkholder has one of the more physically advanced frames in the class. Physically defined with present strength throughout the 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame. Slightly open, even base at the plate with explosive bat speed in a compact bat path. Hand speed stands out with advanced use of the lower half that helps generate triple-digit exit velocities. Primarily a line-drive, up-the-middle approach but shows the ability to turn on the ball for easy pull-side power. Elite straight-line speed with double-plus run times (6.29) and powerful first step. An intimidating runner if there was ever such a thing. Long-term tools in center field where the food speed plays well into limitless range and backed by an above-average arm.

Burkholder is a West Virginia commit. He has a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and room to add more. Played centerfield, shows quickness in the outfield and throws have some carry and accuracy. At the plate, shows the ability to handle the bat, showed drag bunt in most of his at-bats and kept it in the opposing team's mind. Hits from the right side, wider balanced athletic stance, keeps toe down for stride, short load back, hips fire with some violence and he maintains good balance through contact. Quick bat, slightly uphill path with some strength at contact, line drive hitter right now with extra base power to pull side and in gaps, chance to add more as he continues to add strength.
Another standout for the Athletics was OF Griffin Burkholder (Freedom South Riding HS, VA; West Virginia). The Mountaineers commit tallied three hits, two RBI and two stolen bases. Two of his hits exceeded 90 mph; 97 on a hard grounder through the six-hole and 91 on a single up the middle.
