Trask

It seems that every time our staff gets a look at INF CJ Trask (Oak Creek, 2024; Bradley Commit), he is all over the barrel, and our time at The Rock was no different. To kick off the weekend for Hitters, Trask got off to a hot start as he went 3-for-3, which included a deep double to the left-field wall, and a homerun over the left-center wall. Also, he was a lockdown defender on the infield, with up-the-middle actions and arm strength that will stick on the infield in the long term. Trask is a name who has been on an upwards trajectory for a good chunk of his prep career, and he continued to do more of the same over the weekend.

Throughout the spring and across the first-half of the summer circuit, MIF CJ Trask (Oak Creek, 2024) has turned heads, and during our time at The Rock was no different. Standing at a broad-shouldered 5-foot-11, 190-pounds with strength throughout, Trask features a polished right-handed swing that has the ability to shoot the ball from gap-to-gap. During his round, Trask reached exit velocity highs of 96.5 mph and he showed off his power potential as his furthest batted ball traveled an estimated 348 feet. On the infield, Trask’s loud tools are equally impressive, as he features a strong arm and pairs it with athletic, sure-handed actions that point to him having the ability to stick at any of the infield positions in the future. Trask’s hit-tool is also something that we have consistently seen perform in game, and the live gameplay portion of this event is no different. In his three at-bats, Trask recorded a double and would also show off his speed as he stole a base, too. Trask has been one of the most consistent performers in front of our staff for a handful of years now, and he enters his final summer circuit as even more of an uncommitted name-to-know in the Badger State. 

Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-11, 190-pounds. Strong, athletic frame with broad shoulders.
Hit: RHH. Stock set up with a slightly open stance. Minimal lower half movement with a short hand load. Strong hands with bat speed. Short, simple and repeats, level through the zone. Backspins off the barrel, gap-to-gap feel. Consistent with polish.  71.9 mph bat speed with 17 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 97 max exit velocity, averaged 83.9 mph. 348’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 81 mph. Short arc, accurate.
Defense: Clean hands, short shuffle steps towards target.
Run: 7.32 runner in the 60.

Trask had a great day in front of our staff. Trask is a complete player with notable tools across the board. First, he can run. Trask ran a solid 7.08 seconds 60 yard dash. Next, Trask showed off his hitability and power potential. He hits with a short compact swing and was hitting backspun rockets to all fields during batting practice. He was one of the leaders in max exit velocity at the event at 97 mph (which was tied for 4th best). On defense, Trask showcased quality actions, a quick first step, clean transfers and serious arm strength at 88 mph across the infield. Trask is currently an uncommitted player who continues to impress in all aspects of the game.

Body: 5-11, 190-pounds. Strong and athletic build.
Hit: RHH. Wider base set up with relaxed hands.  Direct, short quick, handsy, ball jumps.
Power: 97 max exit velocity, averaged 92.3 mph. 365’ max distance.
Arm: RH.  INF - 88 mph.  Short arc, 3/4 slot, quick powerful through the ball, can throw on the run, accurate.
Defense: Two-hand gather, fluid actions, smooth, soft hands, clean transfer, athletic actions, accurate throws.
Run: 7.08 runner in the 60. 

Trask had a strong performance during the summer circuit that continued during the fall. Listed at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Trask is an athletic prospect that is light on his feet that has many tools to his game. First of which is his defense capabilities that project at any infield position, with a strong arm up to 87 across the diamond and the ability to play with control and slow down the game. On offense, Trask has repeatedly shown the ability to hit across multiple looks with simple, solid bat-to-ball skills. His eye-catching performances from spring through the fall have helped him rise inside this update.

Body: 5-10, 170-pounds. Wide shoulders.
Hit: RHH. Stock setup, controlled load. Flat barrel set. Direct to impact. Racing hands. Quick to deliver the barrel. Stays through with extension. Middle of the fields line drives.
Power: 90.3 max exit velocity, averaged 80.6 mph. 281’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 87 mph. Top shelf action, 3/4 slot with carry.
Defense: Works with active feet from right to left with quality tempo gaining ground. Soft hands with early glove presentation. Moves well during the body control play.
Run: 7.33 runner in the 60. 

Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-10, 170-pounds. Wide shoulders.
Delivery: Athletic delivery with an efficient lower-half, moves off back leg well while remaining in-line to the plate, fluid tempo throughout.
Arm Action: RH. Short to the ear out of the glove, clean arm into a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T81, 79.9-81.0 mph. Jumps out of the hand, slight arm-side action at times.  T2145, 2047 average rpm.
CB: 66.1-67.7 mph. 11/5 shape, thrown with intent. T2301, 2226 average rpm.
CH: 70.2-71.6 mph. Fading action to the arm-side, some feel for the bottom of the zone.  T1362, 1290 average rpm.

Trask is an advanced defender in the middle of the diamond with soft hands and athletic feet. He showed a big arm at 85 mph across the diamond and a likely candidate to project at shortstop long term.

Hit: RHH. Crouched setup, balanced lower half, hands load back, short stride.  Short path, works uphill at times. Line drive approach.
Power: 84.58 max exit velocity, averaged 76.3 mph. 242’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C -  mph. INF - 85 mph. OF -  mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot. Accurate across the infield with some carry.
Defense: Active feet that work around the baseball in a fluid, tempo'd rhythm. Soft hands, clean funnels, quick to release on the move, plays through. Showed advanced infield actions for age.
Run: 7.48 runner in the 60.
