RHP Jack Welak (Catholic Memorial, 2025) is a top-40-ranked member of the state’s sophomore class. He stood out again last weekend, where the 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete displayed a repeatable delivery and a loose arm showcasing the ability to drive balls through the zone with his tailing fastball at 82-83 mph. He also wields a slider with big lateral movement that he can land in the zone for strikes and expand for chase and swings and misses. Finally, Welak showed impressive feel for a fading changeup at quality arm speed to round out his three-pitch mix. He’s an interesting uncommitted follow to monitor this spring and summer.

Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Well-proportioned frame, athletic, fill coming.
Delivery: Tall and fall delivery with pre-set post leg, fluid leg lift into directional stride, repeatable.
Arm Action: RH. High 3/4 slot, clean, loose arm action, works free with occasional depth on backs side.
FB: T83, 82-83 mph. Plays with above average arm-side run, solid feel of the zone, mixes in two seam with sink. T2324, 2253 average rpm.
SL: 73-74 mph. 10/4 shape, works well laterally, above average movement. T2087, 2025 average rpm.
CH: 75-78 mph. Fastball arm speed, showed fade action and above average feel. T2056, 1964 average rpm.

Delivery: Repeatable delivery, moves athletically into a slight drop/drive lower-half that works in-line to the plate, square landing foot.
Arm Action: RH. Clean arm that plays from a 3/4 slot.
FB: T80.4, 77.3-80.1 mph. Heavy sinking action, thrown for strikes.  T2271, 2207 average rpm.
SL: 69.6-72.1 mph. Tight 10/4 shape, mature feel.  T2135, 2001 average rpm.

Welak made a strong impression on our scouting staff on Sunday, boasting a heavy sinking fastball up to 80 mph. Welak then went to a sharp 10/4 slider at 69-72 mph while showcasing mature feel, navigating it around the zone with ease.
