Fresno Easter Classic: All-Prospect Second Team

PBR California Staff

When there is this much talent at one tournament you run into trouble keeping only one All-Prospect team, because after putting together the All-Prospect First Team, we immediately knew we had to release a Fresno Easter Classic All-Prospect Second Team. Like the first, this group of players caught the attention of our scouts multiple times throughout the weekend and we felt that they deserved recognition for their accomplishments.

Without further ado, here is the Fresno Easter Classic All-Prospect Second Team.

C - 2020 Carson Blatnick (Oakmont) - Washington State commit. Agile and athletic behind the plate, his defense was on display all week. Showed off a solid average arm (1.95-2.11 Pop) with strong footwork and the willingness to throw behind runners and effectively shut down opposing teams run games. Swang the bat well also utilizing a pullside focus with some feel for the barrel to that side. Big hits on the first two days to help his team pick up the wins while showing balance and hands that stay tight through contact.

1B - 2019 Karson Simas (Clovis West) - Uncommitted. Long rangy body with athleticism playing 1st base as he comes back from some arm issues. Swang the bat very well all tournament with 7 Hits including 2 HR’s and a 2B. Easy, handsy swing letting the ball travel and being able to do damage as a middle of the order threat. Showed good base running instincts with excellent angles and ability to go 1st-3rd despite not having plus speed.

MIF - 2022 Brandon Forrester (Bella Vista) - Oregon State Commit. Lean and wiry muscle build for the MIF who shows tools that will keep him growing in the middle of the diamond. Good feet and fair range with an arm that can make the throws. Leadoff hitter with bat-to-ball skills squaring up the ball on each day for hits. Quick hands through the zone with a middle of the field approach and uses his above-average speed well to get down the line.

MIF - 2021 Eddie Saldivar (San Joaquin Memorial) - Uncommitted. Left-hand hitting middle infielder who showed excellent hands and footwork that will stick in the middle of the field with average arm strength. Made plays with range and ability to turn the double play. Patient, disciplined approach at the plate with a compact swing putting pressure on defenses getting out of the box.

3B - 2020 Cameron Walty (Consumnes Oaks) - St. Mary’s Commit. Was another 2-way player who impressed with his swing and pitching skills over the week. At 3B showed good lateral ability with plenty of arm to make the tough throws. Lots of hard contact to the pullside with some barrel whip through the zone. Showed good approach not chasing bad pitches and strength in hands/wrists. On the mound showed his future with FB that was 85-87 T88 MPH from a loose, quick arm and having a feel for both his nasty SLD (77-80 MPH) and diving CHG (80-82 MPH).

OF - 2021 Tanner Sagouspe (San Joaquin Memorial) - Uncommitted. Started in CF during second day before quickly coming in to pitch big innings, keeping his team in the game and showing a nice up/down sequencing with his FB (80-82 MPH) and CB (68-69 MPH). Strong, and athletic he showed a quick and lofty swing that is easy to project extra-base hit power from. Showed the pop with two HR’s to LCF during his second day showing good bottom hand direction with a late barrel from a controlled swing.

OF - 2020 Justin Holaday (Lemoore) - Uncommitted. Long and rangy athletic build with the ability to run well and track the ball to all parts of the field from CF creating great angles and taking away hits. Power potential in the bat one-hopping fence with oppo/middle approach. Lots of tools present and able to grow with.

OF - 2020 Josh Allison (Edison) - Uncommitted. Big, sturdy frame on the RF with some agility and the ability to get moving once underway. Showed his bat off all tourney collecting hits in each game. Bat is quick to contact with a high finish follow through made to do damage to the pullside gap. Arm fits in RF with the ability to keep it on a line to bases and tracked the ball well to both sides showing fair range. Physical build that can have more pop in the future.

UTL - 2021 Anson Aroz (Placer) - Uncommitted. Athletic with strong upper half showed his versatility and arm strength being able to play SS and Catch. High energy and high IQ with understanding of the game and playing a step ahead. Behind the plate was very good with quick compact arm (2.0-2.04 Pop) at the bag and an excellent glove hand being able to receive and manipulate the baseball coming in. Short, line-drive stroke with extra-base power showing ability to square up the baseball.

P - 2020 Juaron Watts-Brown (Hanford) - Texas Tech Commit. Long and lean righty was a big draw on Day 2 of the tournament where he showed his loose, live arm and feel for two pitches. He’s improved his command of those pitches with the FB 85-89 MPH showing the ability to go up the ladder and move the pitch to both sides of the plate with late life. His SLD (71-77 MPH) showed two breaks with one being a hard biting Slurve before late breaking out a CB breaking version with late depth.

P - 2020 Isaac Ayon (Buchanan) - St. Mary’s Commit. XL frame that is big and durable started the tournament off well showing his quick and clean arm maintaining his velocity in a CG. FB 85-88 T89 with ability to spot and mixed in a sharp SLD at 77-78 MPH while showing feel for his CHG at 70-71 MPH. Body size and clean arm give him a chance to keep growing into one of the premier 2020 pitchers.
