NorCal Preseason All-State: The Five

Ryan Ozella
NorCal Area Scout

Lathrop, CA: The annual NorCal Preseason All-State was our latest stop on the road to the California State Games setting up shop at Islanders Field on a cool and foggy day. The weather didn’t stop us from getting to see a large group of talented players at this premier early season showcase with those players ready to show their fall/winter development as their high school seasons are just a few weeks away. This invite only event roster saw just over 70 players in attendance.

We've covered the event with multiple pieces including Quick HitsStats LeadersCatchersMiddle InfieldersCorner Infielders, and Outfielders.

Today we finalize the coverage from the NorCal Preseason All-State with The Five standouts from the event. We've mentioned previously this was a DEEP group of talented players and could have had a much longer list than just five guys who stood out, but with that constraint in place here's the players who really caught our eye.

THE FIVE:

Jackson Pace RHP / San Benito, CA / 2022

USC Commit. Live arm and projectable frame that will continue to add to the already impressive arsenal. Fastball already in the high 80's and won't be long before he's working in the low 90's with a CHG and SLD that tunnel off his 2-seam FB. Should be a big jumper in the 2022 Rankings and could be best pitcher in the state by 2022 Draft.

Lucas Kelly SS / RHP / Sacred Heart Cathedral, CA / 2022

Frame has added good strength with plenty of projection to keep adding as he grows. Shows the arm strength, power and clean glove work to be a force on the left side of the diamond and could turn into one of the best INF in the State by 2022 Draft.

Michael Mugan OF / 3B / Monterey, CA / 2020

Santa Clara Commit. Has continued to add strength to the frame while keeping his athleticism. Minor swing changes have seen power jump and the arm strength/speed to play all three OF spots. Continues to show upside and a big Spring could have MLB eyes looking in.

Eli Gennis RHP / SS / Berkeley , CA / 2022

Continues to show the arm speed, projectable frame and arsenal to be a big time pitcher on the hill in a loaded 2022 class. FB is live (up to 88 at the event), CB is tight and biting and CHG rounds out a complete arsenal. Add in his ability to hit and play SS and it's one of the more complete players in the 22 class. Will be fun to follow.

Logan Gibson OF / RHP / Modesto Christian , CA / 2022

One of the fastest rising two-way prospects in the 2022 class, Gibson continues to show twichy, athletic attributes and the plus arm strength to fit any OF spot at the next level. Quick, compact bat has space for more growth showing ability to work the gaps; as he grows into the frame could see more power out of it. Also shows the ability to throw multiple pitches on the hill and while we don't know his future it will be fun to watch him continue to progress.
