THE FIVE: N. Calif '21s to Follow This Fall

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

N. CALIFORNIA - The calendar turns to fall this Saturday and that means the all-important fall baseball season is upon us. It's a big season for active players who are headed into their junior season.

The last day of the contact period for NCAA D1 coaches to scout is October 13th, which is less than a month away. We have a couple of events coming up in Northern California, which has us looking at who are some of the top uncommitted players to keep an eye on this fall. Today we ID five uncommitted 2021 grads.

UPDATE(S) - on the morning of 9/20 Anson Aroz announced his verbal to Oregon and Mark Wolbert notified us of his verbal to UC Davis on 9/25

Patrick Keighran 3B / Serra, CA / 2021

A physical corner player with arm strength to play multiple corner spots, Keighran was a standout, maybe THE standout for Team California at the Future Games. Showing well in that environment in game competition certainly beefs up his resume that has had him post strong metrics in multiple events this past summer. Serra HS should be a frequent stop this spring for college coaches on the hunt.

Anson Aroz C / SS / Placer, CA / 2021

One of California's top uncommitted 2021 catchers, Aroz is also fully capable of playing either position up the middle of the infield when not catching. He's a switch-hitter and from the left side has frequently displayed pull-side extra base type pop. Defensively he has a full skill set behind the plate, blocks well, throws well, quick feet, big motor, strong communicator, he always draws a scout's eyes.

Elvin Delic SS / P / Cosumnes Oaks, CA / 2021

Not exactly an under-the-radar player, Delic is one of the top two-way players still on the market in the 2021 class. He's a dynamic offensive player, with the ability to punish mistakes and drive the ball, as well as speed and an aggressive base-running style to pressure the defense. The arm plays above average at SS and on the mound he's been up to 87 mph & shown feel of a tight curveball. Talented kid.

Nathaniel Brouse RHP / Aptos, CA / 2021

Certainly not physically imposing, Brouse has the stuff to make ANY college coach stop & take notice. He's got a whip-quick arm that works very easily and a bulldog type approach on the mound. With a fastball that is steady in the mid-upper-80s (T88) and a TIGHT quick slider, he's a difficult at-bat. He's also got a change-up and pitchability with all three. Coached by former MLB pitcher Mark Eichhorn.

Mark Wolbert OF / LHP / Petaluma, CA / 2021

Wolbert is one of the more gifted athletes who is still on the open market in Northern California. As an outfielder (L/L) he plays at a high level, with good jumps and excellent routes. The arm is good (80 mph+) and the release is better. He's a hit-getting type of offensive player, with a smooth stroke that plays to all fields. On the mound he displays savvy and feel with stuff that keeps ticking upward.
