Scouting Report

8-4-18

5-foot-11, 205-pound left hand hitting C/1B.  Strong left handed swinger at the plate.  Uses a high leg kick to load on his backside.  Weight and hands explode through the zone.  Swing path is uphill with several balls hit hard during the live round.  Exit velocity was 91 mph. Behind the plate he is fundamentally sound.  Soft hands and quick actions while blocking.  Arm is from a high ¾ slot with accuracy.  Pop-times were 2.00 – 2.05 during game action.  In the field he shows good instincts around the bag.  Quick release and accuracy on the double play ball.  Arm played at 78 mph across the diamond.

5-29-18

Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 8 in PBR Colorado's 2020 class. Bats left throws right. Stayed on the ball longer through the zone this game, showing opposite field gap power. Traditionally has had pull side power when we have seen him. Looks like he's working on driving the ball ther ball other way more. Also showed solid pull power in this game as well.  Advanced bat speed. Speed has increased, and is faster running down to first as well.

1-28-18

5-foot-10, 185 pounds. Bats left and throws right. Plus power from left side. Wants to pull the ball, but shows ability to go the other way. Bat stays in the hitting zone through extension. Bottom hand finish at times. Live-round was impressive, and ball really jumps off bat. Exit velocity was 90 mph off the tee. Receives well behind the plate. Pop-tmes were 1.9 to 2.05. Arm strength was 74 mph behind the dish. A power hitting left-handed catcher which is a prospect to follow.

8-5-17
5-foot-10, 185 pounds. Bats left, throws right. Plus left-handed hitting power for a catcher. Open stance with big load. Great position to hitting lane. Explodes on contact Strong lower half and ball jumps off the bat. Produced a 84 mph exit velocity off tee but shows more power live. Behind the plate was strong. 1.98 pop time off coach and threw 74 mph. Threw out 2 runners in one inning at 2B and 3B. To see video click here

1-29-17
5-foot-10, 185 pounds. Bats left throws right. The PBR Colorado staff came away really impressed with Best's offensive potential. Showed off quick, powerful hands from the left side. Frame is still developing, but he is already a strong big swing that doesn’t get cheated. Open stance with a big dive, but hands are quick enough to make up for the dive. 82 mph exit velocity but bat speed played faster in live round. Behind the plate, everything looked the part and he was consistently 2.15 with every throw on the bag. Footwork and transfer were smooth, and he will be under a 2.0 in the next couple of years. He also received very well with a wide base and soft hands.
