SCHAUMBURG, IL – New Trier and No. 9 St. Charles North met Monday evening with a trip to state on the line in the Schaumburg Super Sectional. St. Charles North walked off with the 4-3 victory.

The North Stars had a tough time getting anything going against one of the states best pitchers in Ben Brecht. They only had two hits thru the first five innings, and did not get a runner past second base. The bottom of the sixth would change that.

Shortstop and Memphis commit Zach Mettetal started the inning by hitting a deep fly ball to right field that was dropped, allowing him to advance to second. Kyle Novotney followed up with a double to put runners at second and third. John LeGare came up with a RBI groundout to get the North Stars on the board. Sam Faith then hit a double to drive in Novotney and chase Brecht from the game. Trevians reliever Ryan Acri came in and got a groundout and a strikeout, sandwiched by a hit batsmen to stop the rally.

With the game 3-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, St. Charles North had the top of the order coming up. Brendan Joyce was hit by a pitch to start the inning and was moved over on a sacrifice bunt. Zach Mettetal then singled to put runners at the corners with one away. On a would be double play ball off the bat of Novotney, Acri looked the runner back at third went to first for the out, instead of attempting to turn two and end the game.

An intentional walk to LeGare brought Sam Faith to the plate with the bases loaded. Faith fought off numerous two strike pitches before chopping a ball to the first baseman. The chopper deflected off his glove and scooted into short right field allowing Joyce and Mettetal to score for the walk off winner, and send the North Stars to Joliet.

New Trier scored twice in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of Ryan Acri.

The North Stars will play Friday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet against Mundelein at 5 PM.
