Metamora 5, Canton 0
Metamora (5-3; 1-0) won its Mid-Illini opener behind sophomore RHP Trent Johnson. Johnson fired a six-hit shutout at Canton with 12 strikeouts on Monday. Johnson, an Arizona recruit, also had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI. Bradley-bound Spencer Gaa delivered a single, triple and two RBI.

S. Illinois River-River Ohio

Harrisburg 5, Murphysboro 0
Harrisburg's University of Illlinois-bound RHP Ryne Roper did it all for the Bulldogs in their SIRR-Ohio opener on Monday. Roper struck out seven in his five shutout innings of work and had two hits at the plate to lead the 'Dogs past the Red Devils. For the season Roper is 4-0, allowing but one earned run with 32 strikeouts and one lone walk for Harrisburg (8-1; 1-0).

Herrin 1, Benton 0
Herrin (7-3; 1-0) opened up SIRR-Ohio play with a thrilling 1-0 victory at Benton City Park on Monday. In this thriller, Herrin junior Cody Crosley out-dueled Benton sophomore Dakota Head. Crosley fired a four-hit shutout at the Rangers with six strikeouts. In the top of the third, Herrin senior 1B Jared Daugerty singled home the only run of the game. Head (2-2) scattered 10 hits and allowed but one run.

South Suburban Red

Evergreen Park 10, Argo 5
Evergreen Park (1-2; 1-0) opened up South Suburban Red play with a 10-5 thumping of Argo. Dan Duh and KeyShawn Carpenter led the Mustang attack with two hits and two RBI. Starting pitcher Kyle Venhuizen (1-1) picked up the win for EP.

Suburban Christian Crossover

Aurora Christian 1, St. Francis 0
The two teams combined for only four hits in this pitchers’ duel at the Stuart Sports Complex in Aurora on Monday. Aurora Christian (2-1; 1-0) junior J.T. Baksha and St. Francis senior Andrew Brundage hooked up in classic duel. Brundage pitched five scoreless innings allowing one hit. Brundage had nine punch-outs. Baksha (1-0) went six innings allowing only one hit and had 11 punch-outs. In the bottom of the sixth, Eagle senior Brandon Walgren ripped an RBI single scoring Chase Tomney with the only run of the game. In the top of the seventh, St. Francis (1-1; 0-1) loaded the bases against Walgren. Walgren fanned two to leave the sacks loaded and another Aurora Christian victory.

Aurora Central Catholic 11, Guerin Prep 5
Another first for ACC head coach Sean Bieterman, as ACC (2-1; 1-0) rolled past Guerin for Bieterman’s first Suburban Christian Catholic Conference victory. Charger Phil Schuetz had two hits and three RBI to lead the Chargers. Shawn Sorris chipped in with a pair of hits for ACC.

West Suburban Gold

No. 19 Downers Grove South 13, Leyden 5
Downers Grove South (5-2; 3-0) trailed 5-3 after 2 ½ innings but erupted to score the next 10 runs of the game to complete its sweep of Leyden. Mustang senior 3B Alex Galik had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a triple and four RBI. University of Pacific-bound Dan Mayer also tripled, doubled and singled, falling a homer short of hitting for the cycle. Mayer drove home pair of Mustang runs.

Hinsdale South 10, Willowbrook 1
The defending West Suburban Gold champion Hornets picked up right where they left off in 2012 on Monday. Hinsdale South (3-3; 3-0) was led by its senior leadoff man DJ Deolitsis. Deolitsis had two hits, scored three runs and drove home two as the Hornets completed their sweep of Willowbrook (1-4; 0-3). The Hornets had only five hits but 11 Willowbrook errors produced seven unearned runs. Hornet senior Mike Marrera (1-1) fired a four-hitter at the Warriors.

Morton 11, Proviso East 0
Morton completed their sweep of Proviso East (0-4; 0-3) in five innings on Monday. Morton (3-2; 3-0) sophomore RHP Sergio Villalobos (1-0) fired a three-hit shutout at the Pirates. Luis Rivera, scored three runs, had two hits and drove home three to lead the Mustang attack.

Junior Marco D’ Angelo was three-for-three with a pair of RBI.

West Suburban Silver

Oak Park 8, Glenbard West 4
Oak Park (4-1; 3-0) completed its sweep of Glenbard West (0-4; 0-3) at Village Green in Glen Ellyn. Pat Clifford singled and tripled and drove in three to lead the Huskie attack. Huskie leadoffman Andy Nelson singled and doubled in his two official trips to the plate with an RBI.

Hinsdale Central 20, Proviso West 2
The Red Devils scored 20 times to complete their sweep of Proviso West (0-3; 0-3) on Monday. Boston College-bound Skogsbergh had three hits, scored three runs and drove home five to lead Hinsdale Central (3-0; 3-0). Tom Conklin chipped in with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Red Devil RHP Austin Butler (1-0) fired three scoreless innings to pick up the win in this 10-run rule affair.

Nonconference

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 11, Barrington 1
The Phoenix (3-0) rose to the top of the PBR Super 25 on Sunday and crushed Barrington 11-1 in five innings on Monday. Creighton-bound Kevin Smith had three doubles and drove home two Phoenix runs. Senior 1B Reed Hero doubled home a Phoenix run and Josh Reid added an RBI single for L-W North. Sophomore LHP Kevin Ostrowski (1-0) allowed an unearned run and one hit in his five innings of work. Brett King finished up the game with two scoreless innings of relief.

No. 7 Mount Carmel 5, Crawfordsville (IN) 0
Mount Carmel (6-1) rolled in the Hoosier State behind a one-hitter from junior LHP Marko Boricich (2-0). Boricich fanned 10. Senior Jason Gasser had three hits including the big blow of the game when he tripled with the bases loaded.

No. 15 Ottawa 18, Plano 8
Ottawa (4-0) smashed Plano 18-8 in five innings on Monday. University of Illinois bound Mike Hermosillo homered, doubled and had six RBI to leads the Pirated past the Reapers. Alex Miller picked up the win on the mound for Ottawa.

No. 16 Huntley 17, Rockford Boylan 1
Huntley (4-0) demolished Rockford Boylan 17-1 in five innings on Monday. Red Raider junior Tommy Kiriakopoulus, Louisville-bound Colin Lyman, junior Matt Sullivan and senior Kameron Sallee all went deep for Huntley. Kiriakopoulos had two hits and four RBI while Sullivan had three hits and three RBI to lead the Red Raider attack. Sallee drove home three Huntley runs. Red Raider junior RHP Eric Luecht struck out six in his three scoreless innings to pick up the win.

No. 18 Teutopolis 5, Effingham 2
In a battle of great nicknames, the Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis (7-1) prevailed over the Flaming Hearts of Effingham (1-2) on Monday. A four-run Shoes sixth, erased a 2-1 Flaming Heart lead. Jared Waldhoff singled, scored a run and drove home a run to lead the T-town offense. The Shoes were only able to get five hits.Teutopolis LHP Chase Wendling allowed one earned run in four innings to pick up the win. Wendling struck out seven Flaming Heart batsmen.

No. 18 Teutopolis 12, Stewardsberg-Strassburg 6
Jared Waldhoff picked up where he left off against Effingham, on Monday night at T-Town. Waldhoff singled, doubled and plated a run for the Shoes. SIU-bound Kyle Pruemer scored two and drove in three. Bobby Wenthe had three singles, three runs scored and two RBI. Alex Goldstein chipped in with three hits and two RBI as Teutopolis (8-1) had 13 hits.

Lincoln-Way East 3, Loyola 2
The Griffins bounced back from their loss to Waubonsie Valley to win a thriller in Frankfort. Griffin junior Evan Sandman put the lights out on the Ramblers, driving home the eventual game-winner in the sixth. Sandman had two hits and two stolen bases.

Griffin head coach Paul Babcock used a little small ball to tie the game in the fifth. Brandon Witt’s suicide squeeze bunt evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Nathan went the distance for Lincoln-Way East (2-1) scattering six hits with four strikeouts.

Bloomington 6, Pontiac 4
Purple Raider senior Roman Visintine continued his assault on the baseball this spring. Visintine had three more hits and two RBI, to lead Bloomington (5-5) past Pontiac on Monday. Sophomore Deion Thompson ripped a pair of doubles and drove home a run for the Purple Raiders and sophomore Tyler Workman (2-2) went the distance for Bloomington.

Paris 5, Danville 4
The Tigers improved to 6-1 with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Danville (1-2) on Monday. Danville was led by Southern Mississippi-bound catcher Chuckie Robinson, who had two hits and an RBI. Viking Nolan First also had two hits and an RBI for Danville.

Fenwick 7, McQuaid Jesuit 2
The Friars won their season-opener in Orlando on Monday. Friar starting and winning pitcher Cal Laird (1-0) fired five shutout innings allowing just two hits. Kevin Claffy had a three for three day with a pair of RBI. Paul O’Toole chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

Schaumburg 9, Dundee-Crown 2
Schaumburg (2-0) hit Dundee-Crown with a big seven-run fifth to break-up a 2-2 tie and won its season-opener on Monday. Saxon senior Kyle Reinhart and junior Josh Rahn each plated a a pair of Saxon runs. Junior 3B Ron Woloczwk chipped in two hits and an RBI. Junior Brad Schwind (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Dundee-Crown (1-1) was led by Charger senior C Dylan Kissack who had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate.

Highland Park 8, Grayslake Central 6
The Giants jumped out to an 8-2 after four innings and hung to defeat the Rams 8-6 on Monday. Matt Lowry and Jonathan Chudacoff each drove home a pair of Giant runs. Harry Carl had a big three-hit afternoon for Highland Park. Grayslake Central (4-2) was led by senior Ryan Fontana who had two hits, scored two runs and drove home a pair for HP.

Jacobs 10, Palatine 4
Jacobs (3-0) rolled past Palatine on Monday behind the booming bat of Golden Eagle 2B Grant Kale. Kale had two hits and drove home three for Jacobs. John Berndt added two hits and two RBI while Connor Conzelman went deep for the Golden Eagles.

Cary-Grove 13, Lake Zurich 10
Cary-Grove (4-1) rallied past Lake Zurich 13-10 at Lake Zurich on Monday. The Trojans scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to rally past the Bears. The Trojans were led by Brandon McCumber who had four hits, scored four runs and drove home three to lead the Trojan onslaught. Lake Zurich’s (1-4) Anthony Drago hammered a three-run bomb for the Bears.

Lincoln-Way Central 8, Romeoville 6
Lincoln-Way Central (2-1) held on for an 8-6 nonconference win at Romeoville on Monday.

The Knights led 8-2 and had to survive a four-run Spartan explosion in the bottom of the seventh to get out of Romeoville with the win.University of Ohio-bound Matt Mikoljczak needed relief help from senior RHP Dan Doherty in the seventh to pick up the win. Doherty nailed down the save for the Knights. Junior Pete Michalak’s booming three-run double highlighted the Knights six-run sixth. Junior 1B Sean Barry had a perfect two-for-two day at the plate with a pair of RBI. Romeoville (5-1) was led by senior Brandon Lisak who had an RBI triple for the Spartans.

Machesney Park Harlem 10, McHenry 7
Machesney Park Harlem (1-2) scored four runs in the top of the seventh to stun McHenry 10-7 on Monday. Senior Cody Dietz went deep with a man on for the Huskies. Nolan Boone drove home three for Harlem and Devon Walker scored three runs and had three hits. McHenry (4-3) was led by Cole Hoeppel-Tranter who had two hits and three RBI for the Warriors.

Peoria Notre Dame 12, Normal U-High 5
Peoria Notre Dame (4-1) hit the defending Class 2A champs in Normal with a nine-run first inning and coasted to a 12-5 victory on Monday. Mick Best had two doubles and three RBI to lead the PND. Andy Shadid added three hits and plated two runs. Nick Bell chipped in with two hits and two RBI. Normal U-High (2-2) was led by Noah Larson who was three-for-three with two RBI.

Collinsville 10, Civic Memorial 7
The Kahoks improved to 5-0 with a 10-7 slugfest victory over Civic Memorial on Monday. Juniors Zach Matthews and Tanner Houck led the Kahok attack. Mathes had three hits including two doubles and drove home three. Houck had three hits, including a double and plated two to make a winner out of junior Kyle Reeves. Reeves allowed an unearned run in his three solid innings of relief to pick up the win.

Mahomet-Seymour 11, Champaign Central 7
Mahomet-Seymour (5-0) scored six runs in the top of the seventh to rally past Champaign Central 11-7 in Champaign on Monday. Bulldog CF Cully Day had two hits and drove in three runs. MS LF Dalton Kearns had two hits and two RBI and SS Joe Kenny drove in two including the game tying single in the six-run seventh. Chris Redmond (2-0) allowed one run in four innings to pick up the win. Redmond had four strikeouts.

Joliet Catholic Academy 6, De La Salle 2
JCA (2-3) rolled past De La Salle 6-2 on Monday behind sophomore Nick Dalesandro. The hard-hitting soph had three hits and drove home one Hilltopper run. Junior Nick Morrison drove home a pair for JCA and WIU-bound SS Chris Tschida chipped in with a single and three runs scored. On the mound for JCA, senior Cal Placher evened up his record at 1-1 allowing two runs in four innings. Dalesandro slammed the door on the Meteors over the last three innings to pick up the save.

Fremd 4, Crystal Lake Central 1
Fremd (3-1) defeated Crystal Lake Central behind a fine performance by RHP Eric Gile. Gile allowed one run and five hits to pick up the win for the Vikings. Austin Jetel doubled twice and drove home a run for Fremd.

Maine South 6, Lane Tech 1
Maine South (3-1) dispatched Lane Tech 6-1 behind senior RHP Zach Hinkamp. Hinkamp allowed one run in his five innings of work to pick up the win. Senior Jack Touhy had two hits and an RBI to lead the Hawk attack.

Waterloo 5, Freeburg 3
Waterloo improved to 6-0 with a nonconference victory over Freeburg on Monday. Bulldog senior Logan Mueth had two hits and two RBI to lead the waterloo attack. Senior Ethan Ruff was two-for-two with an RBI Senior Alex Wittenauer (1-0) allowed two runs in six innings to pick up the win.
