Draft League Data: Ryan McCoy

McCoy, 19, has been an anchor in one of the most dangerous lineups in the Draft League, batting .286/.522/.423 through 20 games. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound CIF/OF has shown power from the left side of the plate, hitting 11% of balls in play over 100 mph and driving in 15 runs. We saw a taste of this from McCoy on June 5, when he blasted a changeup 400-plus feet at 108 mph against Frederick.

With an average launch angle of 13.3 degrees on hard-hit balls and a 39% Sweet Spot rate, McCoy consistently puts himself in a position to do damage at the plate.

Yet, it’s McCoy’s plate discipline that is perhaps his greatest strength. He leads the Draft League in walks (29) and walk rate (41%) and just wears pitchers down, averaging 4.6 pitches per plate appearance. McCoy’s knack for recognizing pitches early and controlling the zone is reflected in his 11.5% chase rate, the League’s second-best mark.

McCoy has also made his presence felt on the bases by going 9-for-10 in steal attempts. He also has two triples on the year, tied for second in the Draft League, and owns a share of third place in the circuit with 20 runs scored.

Overall, McCoy’s combination of power, plate discipline and speed make him one of the most versatile and dangerous hitters in the Draft League.
