CAROL STREAM, IL – In a DuPage Valley Conference matchup, Glenbard North (11-7, 5-3) and starting pitcher Eric Orze took care of cross-town foe Glenbard East (9-11-1, 2-5) by a final of 7-3.

The Panthers' junior right-hander Orze (3-1) went the distance on Wednesday, striking out six along the way. Orze pitched backwards most of the day, throwing a curveball and slider combination in fastball counts, keeping the Ram offense at bay.

East struck first in the top of the third when Joe Ritchie dropped on in front of a diving centerfielder that led to a one-out triple. With two outs, senior Tommy Mogavvero drove in the run with an RBI infield single.

The Panthers answered quickly in their half of the third scoring four runs on three hits. The big blow came off the bat of Matt Albin when he laced a bases-loaded opposite-field double to get the scoring started. Albin would finish the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Later in the inning, junior catcher Justin Griffin also plated two runs on a single.

Those four runs proved all Orze needed to finish off the Rams. East would scratch a pair of runs in the sixth to on four consecutive hits to lead of the inning but that would do it as North held on for the 7-3 victory in Carol Stream.

East’s John Allen and Tommy Mogavero each had two hits and an RBI in the losing effort.

The two teams will match up again on Thursday in DVC action at Glenbard East. East will try to salvage the series as North has already taken the first two contests.
