Illiana Preseason I.D.: Statistical Analysis

On Monday, January 20th the PBR Illinois and Indiana staffs teamed up to host the winter’s Illiana Preseason I.D. on Monday, Jan. 20th, at the Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center in Chicago Heights, Ill. The event featured over 75 prospects ranging from 2020 to 2023 graduating classes, in both Illinois and Indiana with a couple 2024's sprinkled in as well.
Today, we’ll be analyzing the top statistical performers from this event. Within the next few weeks, videos from this event will be posted into profiles and we will have scouting reports on each of the prospects in attendance. For now, here are the stat leaderboards in each of the measured categories taken from the showcase.
MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY
6-foot, 185-pound, SS/RHP Shane Baumgarten (Wheaton Academy), took the mound for the first time at a PBR event and topped the list by running his fastball up to 87 mph. Pairing his fastball with a tight breaking ball at 71-75 mph, Baumgarten showed projection on the mound moving forward.
TOP 60-YARD DASH
Indiana's Kameron Gethers (Lake Central) was at the top of the list running a 6.69 laser-timed 60. Right-handed hitting, Myles Supurgeci (Mount Carmel), ran the second-best 60 of the day, 6.71. Again, Shane Baumgarten (Wheaton Academy), shows off his athleticism, running a 6.79 laser-timed 60.
TOP EXIT VELOCITY
Shane Baumgarten (Wheaton Academy), once again was at the top of the list recording an exit velocity of 96 from the tee. 6-foot-2, 180-pound, OF Cole Luckey (Glenbrook South) had the second-best exit velocity at the event, 95 mph.
TOP INFIELD VELOCITY
SS Mario Ferri (Addison Trail) played with athleticism, loose arm and led all infield velocities, topping at 87 mph across the diamond.
TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY
OF Cole Luckey (Glenbrook South), one of the more impressive outfielders at the event, registered the top outfield velocity at 89 mph. 6-foot, 190-pound, Chuckie Smith (Crete-Monee) had the second-best outfield velocity of the day, 87 mph.
TOP CATCHER VELOCITY
Indiana's Evan Wittkamp (Munster) was at the top of the leaderboard for the catcher velocities recording 76 mph. 5-foot-11, 200-pound, Cyrus Mehmedi (St. Patrick's) was second on the list with 74 mph from the crouch.
TOP POP TIMES
Indiana's, 5-foot-10, 160-pound, Karson Bailey (South Central) registered pop times 2.00-2.30, a .33 improvement from a year ago, enough to achieve the top spot on the leaderboard. C Robb Meister (John Hersey) had the second-best pop times, 2.10-2.21.
