For Games of Sunday April 6

St. Rita 10, South Aiken 2
No. 1 St. Rita Mustangs (11-0) finished up their destruction of South Carolina by hammering South Aiken 10-1 in Aiken, SC. The last group of Yankees to terrorize South Carolina the way the Mustangs did this week was led by Union General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1865. At least this bunch of Yankees didn’t burn the capital of South Carolina at Columbia to the ground, the way Billy Sherman and his boys did in 1865.

The Mustangs were led by Esteban Martinez, who doubled and drove home three runs for St. Rita. Danny Gleaves and Jake Shepski both went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Gleaves had a pair of doubles; Shepski had one. Nick Goldsmith chipped in with a single and an RBI. Starting and winning pitcher Matt Lenzen (2-0) allowed one earned run and two hits in three innings of work to pick up the win.

Brother Rice 5, Oak Lawn 1
Brother Rice (8-3) beat Oak Lawn behind a three-hitter from senior Ian McGinnis. McGinnis (2-1) allowed one run and kept the Crusader defense busy with only one strikeout. Colin Shea had a double and two RBI to lead the Rice attack. Andrew Dyke and Mike Massey chipped in with a single and an RBI, each

St. Viator 10, Guerin Prep 2
St. Viator (8-2) hammered Guerin behind the booming bat of Joe McCollum. McCollum singled, doubled, scored two runs and drove in four, to lead the Lion attack. Ben Dickey added two singles, three runs scored and an RBI. Lion starting pitcher Ronnie Jaydos, allowed two runs in his four innings of work to pick up the win. Matt O’Neil finished up the game with three hitless innings of relief.

After scoring 16 times in the Bulldogs’ shocker over previously No.1 Mount Carmel, the Richards (3-2) bats cooled off a bit, only scoring 14 times against Stagg. Junior Noel Castro led the Bulldog attack with three singles, four runs scored and two driven in. Saturday’s hero senior Shawn Chiaramonte and senior Mike Marchione, both had two singles and two RBI while senior Nate Natividad chipped in with three singles and an RBI. Stagg senior CJ Casey led the Chargers with a single, double and drove home two runs.

Marian Catholic 5, Bradley Bourbonnais 4 (9 innings)
Marian Catholic (8-6) slipped past the Boilermakers in Bourbonnais in an extra-inning thriller. After two outs in the top of the ninth, the Spartans loaded the bases with a single and two walks and scored the game-winner on a Boilermaker boot. Senior RHP Louiscarlo Avila (1-0) allowed one earned run and one hit in his 4.2 innings of relief with four strikeouts to pick up the.win. Senior Danny Jankowski doubled and drove home a run for MC. Senior RHP Michael Bainbridge, started the game for the Spartans and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run and four hits. Bainbridge fanned eight Boilermaker batters.
