Jack Szott Fires 2-Hit Shutout For Metea Valley

By Matt Huck
Area Scout

LOMBARD, IL- On a perfect afternoon for baseball Jack Szott gave himself a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and that was all he would need in Metea Valley’s 5-0 victory over Glenbard East. Szott worked 7 innings allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10 in the dominant performance. He mixed his pitches well working with a fastball, curveball, and changeup and keeping the Ram’s offense quiet.  His fastball sat in the 85-87 mph range early in the outing and settled in at 84-85 for the rest of the game. Szott put an examination point on his outing by striking out the side in the 7th to seal the victory.

In the top of the first after a 2-out error on a flyball, Szott came to the plate and delivered and RBI double to left field. The Mustangs added four runs in the 5th inning highlighted by a 2-run double by Jack Feeeley scoring Conner Lovely who reached on a single and Andy See.

Metea Valley improves to 7-2 with Jack Szott running his record to 3-1 on the year. Both teams will meet again on Wednesday in game 2 of the 3 game set, this time in Aurora, before heading back to Lombard on Thursday to finish off the Upstate Eight Valley Division series.

Complete scout notes will be added to the Illinois Scout Blog later.
