Kenosha Preseason I.D.: Outfield Analysis

The Kenosha Preseason ID kicked off our Preseason ID tour on January 28. We’ve started our coverage with some Quick Hits and a look at the Stats Posted. Yesterday we started with the catching analysis from the event and today we continue with the outfield analysis.

Top Prospects

1. Mitchell Seager, OF/LHP, Beloit Turner, 2018
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting OF/LHP with a strong frame. Took one of the best rounds of batting practice of the event. Hits from a balanced, open setup with a smooth load and good balance. Showed explosion in the lower half. Line drive, gap to gap hitter with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.29 runner down the line. Defensively has a long, stiff arm action from a high ¾ slot. Clean exchange with average hands. Threw 77 mph from the outfield. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Good tempo and balance in delivery. Fastball sat 70-71 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 60-63 mph. Changeup sat 65-66 mph.

2. Adam Cairo, OF, Indian Trail, 2018
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, compact, athletic frame with some present strength. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange, quick footwork, and soft hands. Throws showed carry throwing 79 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from a balanced, open setup with a short leg kick stride. Line drive hitter with a short swing path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.26 runner down the line.

3. Bryce Biedrzycki, OF, Westosha Central, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and short toe tap stride with good balance. Short level swing path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.37 runner down the line. Defensively in the outfield lacks actions but showed off raw arm strength. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot with average hands. Throws showed carry throwing 83 mph.

4. Alex Salerno, OF, Westosha Central, 2019
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky, athletic frame. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws with carry throwing 85 mph from the outfield. Plays thru the ball with fluid footwork and a full crow hop. At the plate hits from a crouched, closed setup. Big leg kick stride with a long, swing path. Line drive hitter with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.44 runner down the line.

5. Michael Rozell, OF, Burlington, 2019
6-foot, 150-pound lanky, left-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively hits from a wide base with a crouched setup. Heel lift stride with a short, uphill swing path. Repeats well. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.47 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with quick footwork. Threw 71 mph from the outfield.

Zach Asik, LHP/OF, Wisconsin Lutheran, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting LHP/OF. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Ball comes out tight to the head. Drop and drive delivery working in line with home plate. Square landing with good balance throughout. Fastball sat 70-71 topping out at 72 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape with some depth at 58-59 mph. Changeup sat 64-66 mph.  Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange and quick footwork. Threw 81 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from a wide base with a balanced setup. Linear lower half with good balance. Opposite field hitter with a level swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.26 runner down the line.

Colin Conyers, 3B/OF, Indian Trail, 2019
6-foot-1, 167-pound right-handed hitting 3B/OF. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg kick stride. Long, uphill swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. 5.00 runner down the line. Defensively in the outfield has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot with a long exchange. Threw 69 mph from the outfield. In the infield has a short arm action, threw 65 mph across the diamond.

Dalton Damon, RHP/OF, Burlington, 2020
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Fastball flashed cutting action at 71-72 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape and occasionally flashed depth at 64-66 mph. Changeup has downer action 65-67 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and fair balance. Short, level swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.50 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws, throwing 75 mph from the outfield. Plays thru the ball with quick, fluid footwork and a clean exchange.

Jacob Gerzel, OF/RHP, Wilmot, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball. Raw arm strength from the outfield throwing 85 mph. At the plate hits from a tall, balanced setup with an arm bar start. Short, uphill swing path, flashed raw power in batting practice. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.33 runner down the line. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action and draw out of the glove. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Upright finish with occasional recoil. Fastball sat 77-80 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with minimal breaking action. Showed feel for his changeup with running and occasional fading action at 69-74 mph.

Chandler Giampietro, OF, Tremper, 2018
5-foot-9, 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from a tall, balanced setup with a short leg lift stride and fair balance. Line drive, opposite field hitter with short swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.21 runner down the line. Defensively has a short, stiff arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 80 mph from the outfield.

Chris Heywood, OF/RHP, Loyola (IL), 2018
5-foot-11, 200-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a strong frame. At the plate hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride and average balance. Pull, power hitter with a short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.44 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with slower actions. Throws showed carry throwing 83 mph from the outfield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery working in line with home plate. Regular effort with a square landing. Fastball worked mostly up in the zone at 78-79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 67-60 mph. Changeup sat 71-73 mph.

Andrew Hrncar, OF, Westosha Central, 2020
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Short, uphill swing path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.33 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Pays thru the ball with short, quick footwork. Threw 72 mph from the outfield.

Kyle Huckstorf, OF, Waterford, 2019
5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Online, accurate throws, threw 77 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from an open stance with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with average bat speed. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.59 runner down the line.

Jordan Kehl, OF, Tremper, 2019
5-foot-10, 148-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance, loads to back side with good balance. Fluid rhythm with a long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.29 runner down the line. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with fluid footwork and average hands. Threw 74 mph from the outfield.

Parker Schaefer, RHP/OF, Franklin, 2020
5-foot-10, 135-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Slow paced tall and fall delivery with a closed toe landing. Good balance throughout delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 66-70 topping out at 71 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 59-61 mph. Changeup sat 64-66 mph. At the plate hits from an open setup with a short stride and average balance. Long, uphill swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.69 runner down the line. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange and online action. Threw 74 mph from the outfield.

Brandon Watkins, OF, Tremper, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball with a long exchange. Threw 80 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from an open stance with a short stride back to even. Hands split on the bat, short, uphill swing path, pull side tendencies. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 4.64 runner down the line.

Omar Wright, C/OF, South Milwaukee, 2020
5-foot-6, 130-pound catcher/outfielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, no stride, slight lift and replace, good balance through contact. Line drive contact, used a short path to the baseball, occasional lift. 67 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 64 mph out of the crouch, 68 mph from the outfield, arm works shorter out of the chute, longer in the outfield, over the top slot. Pop times played at 2.43-2.56, feet worked well out of the crouch, occasionally gets long. In the outfield worked through the baseball with two hands. 4.73 runner down the line.
