JOLIET, IL – In the 3A Joliet Regional Semifinals, top seeded Lemont took care of business ousting Manteno by a score of 6-3.

Lemont had to come from behind twice in Wednesday’s game. After a rain delayed start, Manteno jumped on Lemont junior right-hander Ryan Sublette in the first as catcher Connor McCormick deposited an 88 mph fastball over the left field fence to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.

Lemont answered with a dinger of their own in the third, a two run blast off the bat of Garrett Acton made it a 2-1 Indian lead.

Then in the fifth the action heated up as Manteno got on the scoreboard and took the lead again in the top half. An RBI single by Eric Derossett tied the game at 2-2, followed by some two-out first and third base running that scored McCormick from third after an earlier single, giving Manteno a brief 3-2 lead.

As things started to look dicey for the top seeded Indians, Lemont roared back with a four spot in the bottom half of the frame. Lemont took the lead again on a two-run home run, this time by senior Nick Wisz over the right field fence. Lemont added some insurance runs later in the inning when junior second baseman Angel Salinas came through with a two-out, two-run single giving Lemont a 6-3 lead.

With a 6-3 lead headed to the sixth, Lemont starter Ryan Sublette took things from there. Sublette retired the last six Manteno batters in order, capped off by striking out the side in the seventh.

Wednesday’s win sends Lemont into the Regional Final game on Saturday, May 28. The Indians will face the winner of Thursday’s Coal City, Joliet Catholic matchup.
