LISLE, IL- After going 11 innings in game one of the two game ESCC series on Tuesday, Marist and Benet met up for another extra inning affair on Wednesday afternoon. Marist came away with a 1-0 eight-inning victory to split the season series.

Marist senior shortstop and closer Pat Meehan stepped to the plate with Brian Wood on second and two outs in the top of the eighth and drove a base hit to right field scoring Wood and giving Benet a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the eighth Marist starter Ryan Kairis ran into trouble as Brian DuSatko singled to lead off the inning and after Michael Dunn hit his second double of the game, Benet had runners at second and third with nobody out. After seven plus strong innings from Kairis, Marist decided to go to Meehan to try and close it out.

After an intentional walk to load the bases, Meehan came right after pinch-hitter Josh Crosby getting a strikeout with his fastball that sat 83-85 mph. With one out and the bases still loaded Meehan induced a groundball to third base, who came home for the force and back to first for the game ending 5-2-3 double play.

Benet received a strong outing from Senior RHP Jonathan Kruppe going eight innings allowing just five hits while striking out six.

Marist moves to 17-9 on the year and returns to action Thursday at Nazareth Academy. Benet returns to action Saturday hosting a double header with St. Viator.
