CHICAGO, IL- As Chicago Catholic League Blue Division action opened up, no. 2 Mount Carmel wasted no time setting the tone with a 10-0 victory over no. 12 Brother Rice 10-0 in 5 innings on Monday afternoon.
The Caravan got things rolling in the bottom of the first sending 8 men to the plate scoring 4 times. With the bases loaded and one out Jeremy Houston came to the plate and drove a fastball down the right field line for a 2-run double. After a fielder’s choice and a walk to load the bases Bobby Seymour came up and lined a 2-run single into the left-centerfield gap giving Mount Carmel a 4-0 lead.
Mount Carmel starter Nelson Munoz cruised through the first 4 innings only allowing one hit, but ran into some trouble in the top of the 5th. Brother Rice got a one out single by Ryan King, followed by a double from Jake Ridgeway setting up runners at second and third. Munoz then buckled down getting back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.
The Caravan rode the momentum into the bottom of the 5th after a leadoff double by Malik Carpenter and a sac bunt by Jeremy Houston the next seven Caravan hitters all reached base scoring 6 times to walk off with the 10-0 run-rule victory. Bobby Seymour paced Mount Carmel’s offense going a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBIs. Nelson Munoz earned the victory working 5 innings allowing just 3 hits and striking out 4.
No. 2 Mount Carmel improves to 19-1 on the season and no. 12 Brother Rice drops to 17-5. The CCL Blue Division series continues tomorrow as both teams meet again tomorrow at Brother Rice.
