On a gorgeous Spring day at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, the No. 7 Marist Redhawks faced off with the No. 25 Nazareth Roadrunners in an ESCC show down. The matchup saw two top-15 ranked prospects in the IL 2019 class in RHP Jack Brannigan (Notre Dame commit) and LHP Michael Prosecky (Louisville commit). Prosecky carved his way to the winners column guiding the Roadrunners to a 12-2 victory in front of 40+ onlooking pro scouts.

The first two innings of the game were on fast forward thanks to the effective and quick tempoed starts from the two aforementioned ‘aces’ dealing for their respective squads. Prosecky side-stepped a potential big inning as the stoic southpaw watched teammate and left-fielder Teddy Olander gun down a speedy Dane Thomas (Wright State commit) at home ending the third and sending the Naz faithful into an uproar. He proved clutch yet again in the 5th as the Louisville bound lefty surrendered a pair of two-out singles only to induce a Jason Hodges (Arkansas commit) fly-out stranding runners on first and third.

Kendal Ewell (Eastern Kentucky commit) delivered the lone RBI for the Redhawks in the 4th plating Hodges who smacked a double to left two batters prior.

Nazareth did their offensive damage in the 4th and the 6th putting up five-spots in each frame. Five walks, an error and a two-run single by Troy Siranovic headlined the 4th, while five singles and a Olander triple headlined the 6th. Senior Michael Milano started the 6th inning rally lacing a single to left; Olander, Zach Carmignani (Triton JC commit) and Nate Smith all drove in runs in the inning.

Nazareth scored their final runs of the contest on a pinch-hit two-run triple to right off the bat of Matt Talentowski.

Prosecky garnered the impressive victory on 89 pitches, 63 for strikes (71%), in five innings of work on eight hits, one for extra bases, one earned run, five punch outs, no walks, while stranding six. Brannigan took the loss exiting after 3 2/3 innings of work.

With the win, Nazareth moves to 2-1 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference and will play host to Reavis tomorrow. Marist falls to 2-2 in the ESCC and travels to Benet on Thursday looking to right the ship in conference.
