OSWEGO, IL – No. 45 Naperville Central topped Oswego 9-4 behind the efficient pitching of sophomore left-hander Ryan Eiermann on Tuesday morning at Oswego’s Ken Pickerill Stadium. Eiermann twirled four innings of one-hit baseball, striking out eight, with no walks, allowing only one unearned run.

The Redhawks offense erupted for seven fourth inning runs, taking a 9-0 lead, aided by four Oswego errors during the inning. Sophomore second leadoff man Connor Gurnik led the way offensively for Naperville Central going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Senior Mack Heatherly went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two RBI single, while senior Danny Veles also added a two RBI single during the seven run fourth.

Eiermann was perfect into the fourth, retiring eleven straight hitters to begin the game, until a two out infield error gave Oswego its first base runner. A fly ball double deep to left field lost in the sun resulted in the Panthers first hit and first run, but Eiermann avoided any further damage with a swinging strikeout on a changeup down in the zone. The young lefthander ranked No. 18 in Illinois’ 2017 class impressed working fast throughout the outing with command of all three pitches, facing only two batters over the minimum in his predetermined four inning outing.

Thanks to a five walk seventh inning, Oswego made things interesting scoring three more runs to make the final 9-4 Naperville Central. Kurtis Klingbeil had a two RBI single for the Panthers during the late rally.

Naperville Central improves to 3-1 on the season, while Oswego drops to 3-2 with the loss.
