The PBR IA Prospect ID- Quad Cities event took place on Sunday, April 28, 2019. The event was held at the TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, IA.

Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff in a pro-style showcase. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and the TBK Bank Sports Complex for participating in a quality event.

pitCHER EVALUATIONS

Blake Anderson, 3B/RHP, Dowling Catholic, 2022
5-foot-10, 161-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.47 runner. Square stance with leg kick trigger,  line drive swing plane, stays on and through contact, shows pop in bat to all fields, high rate of hard barrel contact throughout bp, 85 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork with clean transfers, has actions for age, hands are sure and shows accuracy and carry to bag, 79 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; longer side step into slight tuck and turn balance point, lands slightly across body, clean compact arm action, avg. extension to plate. Fastball was 78-80 mph with slight running action to arm-side of plate. Shows ability to land 11/5 breaking ball for strikes; has tighter spin and solid depth. Shows flashes of fade on changeup with varying action at plate.

Zane Beebe, OF/RHP, Davenport North, 2021
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.28 runner. Square stance with body load, some rhythm in hands, line drive swing plane, stiffer finish through swing, shows best contact when stays with middle of field approach and drives through baseball, 84 mph exit velocity. Avg. momentum, tends to stop to field, avg. accuracy and carry to target, stiffer one piece arm action, 78 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; controlled rocker step into medium balance point, short arm action from OT slot, lands inline to catcher with solid extension out front. Fastball was 69-71 mph with slight cutting action to plate. Curveball has loopy shape with 12/6 spin. Shows good feel for changeup with arm-side run and fade.

Adam Burke, SS/RHP, Davenport Central, 2021
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.40 runner. Square simple stance, drops hands to swing, uphill path, inconsistent contact, shows solid line drive and fly ball contact to middle of field, 73 mph exit velocity. Works around and through, choppy rhythm and stops occasionally to field, avg./ok glove, average arm across with accuracy to bag, 70 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; choppy rhythm to balance point, lands against hard closed foot, one piece pie arm action. Fastball was 71-73 mph with late running action to plate. Slider action on breaking ball with loose shape and avg. spin.

Colton Butler, LHP/1B, Oskaloosa, 2020
6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; crouches into medium balance point, swings front leg down mound and lands closed, compact arm action and comes out clean in front. Fastball has slight downhill plane at 75-78 mph with late diving action to arm-side. Soft spin and avg. shape on curveball with avg. break. Solid sinking action on changeup with good feel for bottom of zone. 7.44 runner. Large target at first, sure hands, solid fielder at position, has adequate range, solid receiver around the bag, 75 mph arm strength across infield.

Xavier Deal, OF/RHP, Port Washington (WI), 2020
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.20 runner. Crouched stance, leg kick trigger, pre-set arm bar, length to contact, firm top spin ground ball contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete in field, works through ball, sure hands, slingy arm action, solid overall arm with accuracy to target, 82 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; short rocker step and rolls up into medium balance point, long arm action, turns ball over on release, short landing falling across body to first base side. Fastball was 79-80 mph from ¾ slot producing varying action to plate with slight life. Flashes sharper break on curveball occasionally with 11/5 shape. Varying action on avg. changeup for strikes.

Hudson Deal, UTL/RHP, Port Washington (WI), 2021
5-foot-11, 187-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.03 runner. Slightly open stance, slight arm bar, solid pop in bat to pullside, looks to elevate, dead pull approach, 79 mph exit velocity. Higher fielding position, extra glove pats to time ball, avg. actions, heavier feet in infield, shows accuracy and carry to bag, 75 mph arm strength across infield. Works through ball well, good direction with feet, compact arm action, has carry and accuracy to target, 80 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; rocker step into higher tucked balance point, clean compact arm action with solid extension out front. Fastball was 73-77 mph with flashes of running action to plate. Curveball has 11/5 shape with tighter spin and avg. depth. Avg. control of changeup- has late arm-side running action when in zone.

Cody Depardo, SS/RHP, Davenport North, 2020
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.59 runner. Square stance, body load, compact swing, path is inverted at times, shows solid contact to mid/pull side of field, 75 mph exit velocity. Avg. rhythm and tempo to field, tends to move flat-footed and field deep into body, hands are sure and is accurate to bag on throws with carry, 72 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; longer rocker step into higher tuck and turn, leaks out of balance point early, lands on collapsed front leg, short arm action from high ¾ slot. Fastball was 76-79 mph with slight cutting action at plate. Solid shape and spin on 11/5 curveball and lands for consistent strikes. Good feel for firm changeup with solid run and sink action.

Nate Dierickx, LHP/OF, Durant, 2021
6-foot, 156-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; controlled rocker step into athletic balance point, long sideways circle, arm is whippy out front and has extension to plate. Fastball was 78-80 mph from ¾ slot with above avg. life and late varying action at the plate. Inconsistent shape and spin on curveball from lower arm slot. Cut action on changeup with occasional fade. 7.33 runner. Square stance, body load, leads with hips into contact, short finish through, shows solid pop in bat to middle/pull side of field, 72 mph exit velocity. Avg. tempo working through baseball, short crow crow hop, low slinging arm action, quick release on throws, online to target with accuracy and avg. carry, 83 mph arm strength from outfield.

Peter Espensen, OF/RHP, West Branch, 2020
6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Square stance, double tap trigger with body load, shows bat speed and extension through contact, has pop in bat to right-center gap, pull approach, 92 mph exit velocity. Works through ball, higher fielding position, follows throws to target, has carry and accuracy, 80 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; short rocker step into high balance point, works up to down the mound, lands inline to catcher, with short arm action driving ball on downward plane. Fastball was straight at 78-79 mph with flashes of slight running action. Solid spin and shape on 12/6 breaking ball with avg. depth. Has feel for changeup with above avg. run and sink.

Aidan Fitzgibbon, RHP/OF, Pleasant Valley, 2020
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; turn into athletic balance point, lands hard across body, long arm swing and delivers from high OT slot. Fastball was 75-77 mph with slight running action to plate. Breaking ball varies from 12/6 with solid down action to 11/5 with sweeping break. Solid fade with avg. action on changeup for strikes. 7.70 runner. Crouched square stance, body load, has rhythm in hands, consistently squares baseball. Drives ball well to mid/oppo side of field, tends to roll-over to pull side, 82 mph exit velocity. Works around and through, feels deep into body, avg. hands with solid footwork, has carry and accuracy to bag, 73 mph arm strength across infield. Works through ball with sure hands, solid accuracy, lacks carry on throws, 75 mph arm strength from outfield.

Carter Furness, RHP/SS, Bettendorf, 2021
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step into athletic tuck and turn balance point, shows rhythm in delivery, lands slightly across body, compact arm action with solid hand quickness out front. Fastball was 80-82 mph with late arm-side run and sink. Breaking ball is tight with 11/5 shape and late break for strikes. Late diving action on changeup to arm-side. 7.12 runner. Wide square stance, body load, uses lower half in swing, some stiffness in finish, shows hard line drive contact to middle of field, aggressive swinger with solid bat speed, 83 mph exit velocity. Works around and through, hands are sure, fields deep into body occasionally, solid athlete in field, arm plays well across with accuracy and carry, 80 mph arm strength across infield.

Justin Hackett, RHP/3B, Winterset, 2022
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; quicker tempo to delivery, medium balance point, lands inline to catcher with good extension out front. The arm is athletic with above avg. action on pitches. Fastball was 82-84 mph with hard late arm-side running action. Solid spin and shape on 11/5 curveball with average depth. Mirrors fastball arm action and speed well on changeup; above avg. action and feel for bottom of zone. 7.80 runner. Heavy body load, has rhythm in hands, steep path through contact, works out over front leg to contact, shows ability to drive ball to oppo gap, aggressive swinger with solid bat speed, 77 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field with good actions, fields out front, works low to ground, adequate range, above avg. arm with accuracy and carry for age, 80 mph arm strength across infield.

Schuyler Houston, SS/RHP, Iowa City West, 2021
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.89 runner. Crouched stance with body load, longer swing path, rotational hitter, best contact is to middle/pull side of field, 69 mph exit velocity. Active feet and fields out front, shows good range left and right, hands are sure, long arm action and release, has carry and accuracy to bag, 75 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; short rocker step into crouched higher leg kick balance point, long sideways arm draw, lands hard across body and delivers from ¾ slot. Fastball was 71-73 mph with occasional sinking action to plate. 12/6 shape on curveball with flashes of sharp break. Shows good arm-side run on changeup with avg. depth.

Jake Jess, RHP/SS, Anamosa, 2022
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; segmented delivery, higher balance point, longer arm swing, slight pie arm action to plate. Fastball was 71-74 mph, mostly straight, with occasional slight running action. Tends to slow arm on curveball creating slower loopy break and has 12/6 shape. Hard sink on knuckleball that he uses as changeup with solid command of zone. 7.28 runner. Square stance, leg kick trigger, quiet head and barrels ball consistently, mid/pull approach with projectable pop in bat, 75 mph exit velocity. Flashes occasional actions for age, soft hands, mechanics are raw at times but Jess should continue to develop with instruction, arm plays with accuracy and carry to bag, 73 mph arm strength across infield.

Carson Knebel, RHP/OF, Pleasant Valley, 2022
6-foot-3, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; high knee to raise to balance, lands slightly across body, stab on backside with some stiffness across body on release. Fastball was 75-78 mph, on downhill plane, with occasional run and sink. Turns breaking ball over with hand creating slow rolling break to plate. Changeup is thrown downhill with avg. fade and sink. 7.60 runner. Square stance, leg kick trigger, long arm bar creating length to contact, shows some pop in bat with long levers, 76 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, requires development mechanically, long arm swing, shows accuracy and carry to target, 76 mph arm strength from outfield.

Tate Kuehner, LHP, Marshalltown, 2019
6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed pitcher. #17 ranked player in Iowa 2019 class. Recently committed to U. of Louisville soon after the event. Kuehner has always showed above avg. pitchability with use of three pitches. His stock climbed significantly through the spring with the progression of his fastball velocity. Kuehner has rhythm and tempo to his delivery. The arm action is clean and compact producing fastballs in the 86-88 mph range with above avg. control to both sides of the plate with late life. The curveball has tight spin, 1/7 shape, with solid depth for strikes at 73-75 mph. The changeup has flat running action to plate with late action. Overall; as the Spring progressed- Kuehner worked his way onto the short list of best available and cemented his status with his performance at event.

Ethan Lyon, RHP/3B, Indianola, 2022
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; long rocker step working his way back to balanced over the rubber, long arm swing down and behind body, lands inline to catcher, delivers from OT slot. Fastball was 65-66 mph with slight cutting action to the plate. Early break on 12/6 curveball for strikes. Solid fade on changeup with straight action. 7.48 runner. Open stance, longer swing with arm bar in load, flat swing plane with occasional lift, flashes pop in bat to pull side of field, 74 mph exit velocity. Slower tempo to field, tends to move flat footed, late glove presentation, should continue to develop with maturity and instruction, 63 mph arm strength across infield.

Kobe Meyer, 2B/RHP, Dubuque Hempstead, 2022
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.58 runner. Open stance, flat swing plane, some length with arm bar, legs are tall and rigged through contact, flashes hard contact to middle of field, 75 mph exit velocity. Hands are soft, quick tranfers to throw, accurate to bag, tends to move with heavier feet, 70 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; short rocker step, crouched medium balance point, gains tempo through delivery, pie arm action, out and over front leg on release. Fastball was 73-76 mph with minimal action to plate. Curveball has 11/5 shape with early break and loose spin. Shows slight run and sink action on changeup.

Jacob Norris, OF/RHP, Iowa City Liberty, 2020
6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.19 runner. Body load with double tap trigger, slight arm bar, stays compact with arms through swing, consistently barrels baseball, shows ability to drive balls to both gaps, 84 mph exit velocity. Works around and through, works low to ground, shows solid footwork, hands work in the field, fields underneath body occasionally, has accuracy to bag, 79 mph arm across infield. Long and athletic in field, sure hands, works through ball, long clean arm action, above avg. carry and accuracy to target, 88 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; rocker step into higher slight tuck balance point, long clean arm action, leaks off rubber early occasionally, lands inline to catcher with extension across body on release. Fastball was 81-83 mph with above avg. late run and sink for strikes. Has tight spin on 11/5 curveball with avg. depth. Changeup has sharp diving action to arm-side of plate with above avg. depth.

Matt Paulsen, RHP/1B, West Branch, 2020
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step into medium turned balance point, long arm swing behind body, higher release point and would benefit from greater extension out front. Fastball was 79-81 mph with quality late cutting action for strikes. The breaking ball is sharp with high spin, late depth, and 12/6 shape. Has late sink and solid feel for changeup to arm-side of plate. 6.94 runner. Square stance, body load, flat slashy swing plane, rotational bat path through zone, hard pull ground ball and line drive contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Adequate fielder at first, makes routine plays, looks comfortable around bag receiving throws, 74 mph arm strength across field.

Alex Pollmiller, LHP, Davenport Assumption, 2021
5-foot-11, 150-pound left-handed pitcher. Rocker step to pause, athletic knee swing to balance with body control, arm action is clean and loose, lands inline with front foot open to plate. Showed solid command of zone with fastball at 77-79 mph with running action to arm-side of plate. 1/7 curveball shows sharp late break when down in zone with extension on release. Changeup has straight action to plate with avg. fade and sink.

Jake Porter, LHP, Winterset, 2022
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed pitcher. Rocker step into higher balance point, solid sequence with hands and body through delivery, clean arm action, uses front side well, lands inline to catcher with extension to plate. Fastball was 78-79 mph and shows solid ability to work both sides of plate. Tight spin and sharp break on 1/7 curveball with above avg. depth. Quality arm-side run with late diving action on changeup in bottom of zone.

Anthony Potthoff, RHP/SS, Van Meter, 2020
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step into tucked medium balance point, slight collapse down mound, short compact arm action, lands inline with front foot open to plate. Fastball was thrown for strikes at 79-83 mph. Curveball has 12/6 spin with solid depth to plate. Solid action on changeup with avg. fade in bottom of zone. 7.10 runner. Square stance, uses lower half in swing, flat swing plane, some stiffness to finish, solid present strength, shows hard contact to pull side of field, 81 mph exit velocity. Sure hands in field, avg. footwork, tends to move flat-footed, works low to ground, quick release on throws with accuracy and carry to bag, profiles as third baseman, 78 mph arm strength across infield.

Collin Snyder, RHP, Rock Island Alleman, 2020
5-foot-4, 130-pound right-handed pitcher. Short rocker step into medium balance point with body control, short compact arm action, solid hand quickness out front. Fastball has cutter action with hard late action at 82-84 mph. 11/5 break on curveball with solid spin and shape for strikes. Stiffer release on changeup; varying action with avg. fade.

Jared Walter, RHP/2B, Dubuque Wahlert, 2021
5-foot-9, 167-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; rocker step and travels across rubber, solid sequence with hands and lower half, longer arm swing, ball comes out clean in front. Fastball jumps out of hand well at 83-86 mph, straight action, with flashes of riding life up and through zone. The curveball has tight spin, 11/5 shape, with small break and late depth. Changeup is firm, straight, with flat action to plate. 6.83 runner. Square stance, front heel turn trigger, short path to baseball, steep uphill swing through contact, mid/pull approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, heavier feet, tends to field with flat glove creating stiffness, makes routine plays, above avg. arm with accuracy and carry to bag, 78 mph arm strength across infield. Strong follow in 2021 class on mound.
