PBR Illinois Player Of The Week: OF Nathan Walker

By Andy Sroka

This is the second time this season that Nathan Walker has been nominated for PBR Illinois Player of the Week, but the first time he’s taking home the honor.

An all-state wide receiver in football, the junior outfielder was a huge reason why Carrollton can now call themselves Western Illinois Valley Conference South champs. In four games last week, Walker went 10-for-15 and drove in six runs, scoring seven times himself. In the two games against Calhoun alone, Walker was 8-for-9 and had six RBIs.

Entering this week, Walker is hitting .578 for the Hawks with 32 runs and 33 RBIs on 16 extra-base hits, including 11 doubles, four triples, and a home run. He’s also stolen 10 bags for Carrollton this season.

Carrollton is 14-6-1 this season and, after claiming some conference glory already, will be seeking a bid at the 1A state championship, which would be their first since 2011. With the likes of Walker, the odds of a state title greatly increase. He’ll be certain to help the Hawks get there, as he has all season long.

His 10 hits and seven RBIs, all while helping lift Carrollton to a WIVC South title, allows us to award him with PBR Illinois Player of the Week honors.

Stay tuned for our Weekly Diamond Notes that will be published this Friday. There we’ll take a look at players who narrowly missed out on a Player of the Week honor but deserve some recognition nonetheless.
