PBR Illinois Player of the Week: RHP Jimmy Staab

Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

Sangamon/Tri-City senior right-handed pitcher Jimmy Staab has been named this week’s PBR Illinois player of the Week thanks to his outstanding pitching performance last week for the Tornadoes.

Staab, a McHenry County College commit, twirled a seven inning, perfect game in a 2-0 victory over Riverton on Saturday. At one point in the start Staab struck out an astounding 18 straight Riverton batters. 19 of the 21 total outs came via strikeout. Staab also added a solo home-run in the win.

Final Pitching stat line from Saturday's win: 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 19 K, 0BB, 96 pitches, 71% of them were strikes.

Staab, currently ranked No. 151 in the Illinois’ 2017 class, attended a PBR event in the winter of 2016. At the event he ran his fastball up to 87 mph. Below is the scouting report from that event.

1.31.16 - Solid build 6-foot, 195-pound strong lower-half right-handed pitcher. Three pitch mix, thrown for strikes, with regular effort and some rhythm in his delivery. Quick, short arm action out of an over-the-top window. Delivery stays on-line, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball, flashed life, worked mainly straight, thrown for strikes and sat 85-86 mph, touching 87 once. Curveball flashed feel, worked 12/6 and ranged between 70-72 mph. Changeup thrown with near fastball arm speed, for strikes, down in the zone and sat 77-78 mph.

For his efforts, Staab has been named the PBR Player of the Week for the week of April 2 - April 9.
