Peoria Preseason ID: Preview

By Illinois Staff

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the PBR Illinois staff will travel to the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, Ill, to host the sixth annual Peoria Preseason ID. This event is currently sold out, and will feature some of the top players from the Central Illinois area.

EVENT HISTORY

Last year’s event helped us identify some central and southern Illinois-area talents that we’d not yet seen or had taken significant jumps in their development, like LHP Landen Patton (Sangamon Valley, 2024), who left this event as an arrow-up prospect with a low-80s fastball that was metrically advanced, as well as biting breaking ball with high-spin traits. He went on to earn an invite to the Illinois State Games in the late summer. Coincidentally, Patton also pitched at the St. Louis Preseason ID over the weekend where he took another step forward.

Landen Patton (8/9/22)

INF Dane Hrasky (O’Fallon, 2025) became a follow member of the state’s sophomore class at last year’s Peoria event as an athletic middle infielder with some loud tools for someone his age and size. He, too, made some gains in front of us already this year, most recently at the GBA Scout Day held just over the border in Missouri.

2023 ROSTER

There’s a handful of players headed to Peoria on Wednesday who we’ve seen before and are excited to get an up-to-date look on, like C Tyler Humphrey (Washington Community, 2025). Humphrey’s an athletic right-handed-hitting catcher who has impressed us a couple of times already over the last couple of years, and he’s still just a sophomore.

RHP Tanner Spangler (Morton, 2024) is a top-125-ranked junior in the state and he spins his mid-80s fastball at an above-average rate. He’s a 6-foot-4, 205-pound righty who’s still uncommitted and we’re eager to see how his offseason has been going. From Brimfield, OF/INF Jude Strahm (2024) is another uncommitted junior who impressed us at this same event last year. He’s a 6-foot-2, 180-pound right/right position player with some defensive versatility and tools, packed with arm strength and bat strength. C Anson Zaiser (Washington Community, 2026) is another freshman to know of ahead of time, as a backstop with a smooth swing and some quick feet/actions from the crouch.

Tanner Spangler (2/26/22)

RHP/3B Lane Wheelwright (Farmington, 2025) is an underclassman who stood out during the 2022 IHSA season for his high school, and he’ll be making his PBR event debut at this showcase on Wednesday. RHP/CIF Riley Blue (Metamora, 2026) will also be making his PBR event debut at this showcase, and he’s reportedly been an impressive freshman to know of in the area.
