Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Keaton Wright

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

Keaton Wright has been one of the state’s most productive hitters since he began playing varsity as a freshman at Troy Triad HS. For the last two seasons, the left-handed hitting corner infielder has been among the St. Louis metro area’s statistical leaders in nearly every offensive category.

The 6-foot-1 Wright, who’s signed at SIU-Edwardsville, showed his offensive prowess last week when he helped lead Triad to a 5-2 record during an arduous seven-game span. Wright delivered 12 RBI while tallying seven extra-base hits. The Porsche Exchange Player of the Week had four doubles and three homers of his 11 hits last week.

Wright was especially deadly in the final three games, as he went 7-for-9 with 10 RBI, three homers and two doubles. In Triad’s 8-7 loss to O’Fallon, he went 2-for-2 with two homers, four RBI and two intentional walks. Against Carlyle, he went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI, and in a 7-4 win over Belleville East, he homered, drove in three and finished 2-for-3.

Wright began his hitting tear by going 2-for-3 with a double and RBI during a 3-2 loss to No. 3-ranked Normal West.

"Last week Keaton carried the team offensively in most of our games,” said Triad coach Jesse Bugger. “His presence in the lineup helps the guys around him for sure."

For the season, Wright is batting .489 with 17 doubles, six home runs, 34 RBI, 48 hits and 23 runs scored. He’s slugging at an .806 clip with a .513 on-base percentage.

As a junior, Wright helped power Triad to a fourth-place finish in Class 3A by batting .410 with 18 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 48 RBI and 44 runs.

"Keaton is probably the best hitter that we have had at Triad, definitely the most powerful,” Bugger said.  “He has done a tremendous job of being patient this season. Everyone on our schedule knows what kind of player he is because he has started since his freshman year. For him to put up the numbers that he has says a lot about his ability. He has had very few people attack him from a pitching standpoint."

The Porsche Exchange salutes Wright for his hard work and success.
