Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Kevin Duchene

Kevin Duchene, LHP, Joliet Catholic Academy HS, Class of 2012

By Sean Duncan

Kevin Duchene has been nearly untouchable all season long. But last week, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound left-hander took his game to a new level.

Duchene pitched No. 2 Joliet Catholic Academy to two victories – and did so in dominant fashion. He started his week by blanking Marian Catholic in a 10-0 win. He struck out 12 in four innings, walked one and yielded one hit.

Then, against then-No. 18-ranked Marist, Duchene struck out 16 with no walks in a complete-game four hitter. The University of Illinois recruit struck out three in the second, third, fifth and seventh innings behind a wicked mix of fastballs, curveballs and changeups.

So if you’re scoring at home, that’s 28 strikeouts and two walks in 11 innings work against quality opponents.

Last week’s performance was a microcosm of his spring. In 46 innings, the senior has yielded only one earned run, giving him a 0.15 ERA. He’s 7-0 with 87 strikeouts to eight walks, and he holds a 0.61 WHIP.

"Kevin has been fun to watch so far this season,” said JCA coach Jared Voss.“He deserves all this success based on the commitment he has made in his offseason training. I am looking forward to much future success for him as well."

The Porsche Exchange salutes Duchene for his hard work and success.
