Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Tyler Vaughn

Tyler VaughnIn MLB history, only 13 players have ever hit two grand slams in a game. Last Saturday, Anna-Jonesboro senior Tyler Vaughn took the rare feat one step further.

Not only did Vaughn blast two grand slams against Hamilton County, he added a solo homer and finished 4-for-4 with nine RBI. His RBI total puts Vaughn in the IHSA record book, tied for 17th all-time. His two grand slams ties him for the all-time best.

Vaughn’s remarkable game is no fluke, either. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound two-way standout went 8-for-14 last week with 11 RBI. He also struck out 12, walked two and allowed one earned run in a loss to Shawnee.

Vaughn, who’s ranked No. 128 in Illinois’ 2014 class, is signed at Belmont University.

“Tyler has been a four-year starter and won a sectional game as a freshman,” said Anna-Jonesboro coach Jake Alley. “Tyler has been good for a long time and he is just now becoming a leader. … He is a great player and becoming an even better leader. I have really enjoyed coaching him for four years.”

For the season, Vaughn is hitting .615 with four homers and 26 RBI. On the mound, he is a tough-luck 4-3 with a 0.76 ERA. He is averaging 14.4 strikeouts per game.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Vaughn for his hard work and success.
