The Preseason I.D. Showcase at McHenry is in the books and over the next several days we will be rolling out positional analysis on the event, today we continue with pitchers. Here's a look at our top pitcher prospects on the day, complete with scouting reports and stats.
TOP PITCHING PROSPECTS
1. Matt McCumber, RHP, Cary Grove, 2017
Northern Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 49 in the Illinois class of 2017. Works from an over the top arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery, working in line with home plate. Square landing with smooth rhythm and regular effort. High front side at balance point. Had the best fastball at the event sitting 84-86 topping out at 87 mph. Showed feel for his curveball that has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 64-67 mph for strikes. Changeup sat 66-67 mph.
2. Michael Lasiewicz, RHP, McHenry, 2017
Currently ranked No. 61 in the Illinois Class of 2017. 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action and high draw out of the glove. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Good tempo thru delivery. Fastball showed slight running action at 83-85 topping out at 86 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 68-73 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 72 mph for strikes. Arm to follow in the 2017 class.
3. Josh Schattner, RHP, Wilmot Union, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Works form an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and headsnap at release. Fastball showed some tilt at 82-83 topping out at 84 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with sharp action and tight rotation at 70-72 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup that flashed fading action at 74-76 mph.
4. Kyle Morgan, LHP/1B, Huntley HS, 2018
6-foot-2, 175-pound long, projectable frame right-handed hitting infielder and left-handed pitcher. On the mound the left-hander has a lot of upside. Featured a three-pitch mix which all flashed above-average to plus potential. Loose, quick arm from a high ¾ slot, regular effort and smooth rhythm throughout. Fastball, run and sink, down in the zone and clocked at 79-81 mph. Curveball, true 12/6 action, good spin and feel, 61-63 mph. Changeup thrown for strikes, flashed sink and fade at times, 66-67 mph. Offensively, long, level bat path and a pull approach. Balanced, open setup, short stride and average balance. Registered an exit velocity of 78 mph. Defensively, steady hands on the infield. Long arm action, high ¾ slot and clocked at 66 mph. Also, ran a 4.86 home-to-first.
5. Dylan Honkala, RHP/1B, McHenry West HS, 2018
Strong, sturdy build 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound the right-hander flashed a quick arm with some rhythm throughout his delivery. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, some effort, in-line direction and square landing. Featured a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball. Both fastballs sat anywhere from 79-80 mph, touching 81 once with the 2-seam exhibiting heaviness and sink when down. Curveball showed some feel, could turn into a plus offering, sharp action, 11/5 shape and ranged between 71-74 mph. Honkala has a bright future on the mound. Offensively, showed strength in his swing with bat speed and some looseness. Balanced, closed setup, pre-pitch load, leg-kick timing trigger and some rhythm throughout. Gap-to-gap approach and level bat path through the hitting zone at times. Registered an exit velocity of 84 mph. Defensively, steady hands and moved well around the bag at first base. Loose arm action, ¾ slot and clocked at 73 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 4.97 home-to-first.
6. Jason Cast, OF/RHP, Lake Forest, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a strong, athletic frame. In the outfield has a loose, quick arm action from a high ¾ arm angle Plays thru the ball with a quick, clean exchange. Throws showed carry at 88 mph. Offensively, hits from a balanced open stance with a long stride. Gap to gap hitter with an uphill path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.02. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and easy effort. Fastball showed sinking action at 83-84 topping out at 86 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with short breaking action at 69-71 mph. Changeup sat 73-75 mph.
7. Bryan Truitt, RHP/OF, Rockford Christian, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF with a lanky, athletic frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing, athletic finish, and regular effort. Fastball sat 82-84 mph. Curveball showed inconsistent shape, mostly 11-5 at 68-71 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup that showed slight sinking action at 76-79 mph. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Accurate throws with carry at 85 mph from the outfield. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball with a clan exchange. Offensively hits from a balanced, open setup with a long stride. Line drive, gap to gap hitter with early rhythm and a level path. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.67.
8. Ryan Schmit, LHP, Prairie Ridge, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed pitcher with sloped shoulders. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Fastball was firm with slight armside run at 79-81 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball has 1-7 shape with sharp biting action at 66-68 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 72-75 mph for strikes.
9. Jay Ward, LHP/1B, Carmel Catholic HS, 2018
Lean frame 5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound the left-hander repeated his delivery well and had good feel for all three of his pitches. Flashed a quick arm from a high ¾ slot, and some effort throughout. Fastball, slight run, occasionally up in the zone and sat 78-79 mph. Curveball routinely was thrown for strikes, 12/6, 1/7 shape, and ranged between 61-63 mph. Changeup was thrown aggressively, for strikes, sink and fade action, 71-73 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, level bat path and looked to pull. Registered an exit velocity of 75 mph. Defensively, at first base, quick arm and solid arm strength across the diamond, 80 mph. Moved around the bag well, steady hands and a clean exchange. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate throws with carry.
10. AJ Golembiewski, RHP/OF, Marian Central Catholic, 2018
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting HRP/OF with a lanky frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, loose, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Three pitch mix for strikes. Fastball sat 77-78 topping out at 79 mph. Slider showed sweeping two plane action at 66-69 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with slight sinking action at 71-73 mph. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Plays tall with slower actions. Threw 78 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a toe tap stride. Level path with early rhythm. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.50.
10. Keegan Garcelon, RHP/1B, Huntley HS, 2018
Long limbed 6-foot-3, 175-pound athletic frame right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound featured feel for three pitches and smooth rhythm. In-line direction, square landing, athletic finish and regular effort. Fastball flashed finish, slight arm-side-run and clocked at 77-79 mph. Curveball 12/6 shape with short action and clocked at 64-66 mph. Changeup, sink and ranged between 69-72 mph. Offensively, balanced, open setup, pre-pitch load, short stride and average balance. Level bat path and pull approach. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph. Defensively, steady hands, athletic fielding position and quick feet on the infield. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot, carry on throws and clocked at 76 mph.

5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting LHP/)F with a lanky frame. On the mound works from a low ¾ arm angle with a long, loose arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with good balance throughout. Three pitch feel for strikes. Fastball flashed slight sinking action at 71-72 mph. Curveball showed 1-7 shape at 61-62 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with fading action at 66-68 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Pull hitter with a short, uphill swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ arm slot. In the infield had a quick release, threw 71 mph across the diamond. Threw 72 mph from the outfield.
Cory Busse, RHP/SS, Woodstock North HS, 2017
Athletic build 6-foot-3, 170-pound well-proportioned right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, flat bat path through the hitting zone and line-drive approach. Balanced setup, pre-pitch load and long stride. Registered an exit velocity of 85 mph. Defensively, reliable hands, quick and clean exchange on the infield. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate arms and clocked at 76 mph. Also, ran a 4.44 home-to-first. On the mound the right-hander flashed a quick arm out of a high ¾ window. In-line direction, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball featured some heaviness and clocked at 78-80 mph, touching 81. Curveball worked between 11/5 and 10/4, sitting 63-67 mph. Changeup, slight arm-side-run, fastball arm speed and ranged between 71-73 mph.
Jake Busse, LHP/1B, Woodstock North HS, 2018
Lean 6-foot, 160-pound plenty of room for continued physical development right-handed hitting infielder and left-handed pitcher. On the mound the left-hander operated with some rhythm and regular effort in his delivery. High ¾ slot, in-line direction and square landing. Fastball, slight arm-side-run and clocked at 73-74 mph, touching 77 once. Curveball, flashed late action at times, thrown for strikes, 12/6 shape and 64-66 mph. Changeup, thrown for strikes, down in the zone, slight fade and ranged between 68-70 mph. Offensively, started from a balanced, slightly closed setup position. Long bat path with a pull approach at the plate. Registered an exit velocity of 71 mph. Also, ran a 4.69 home-to-first.
Angelo Camalieri, RHP, Badger HS (WI), 2018
6-fotot-2, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing. Good balance throughout delivery, repeats well. Threw three pitches for strikes. Fastball sat 77-79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with gradual action at 69-71 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 74-75 mph.
Robert Deischer, RHP/OF, Cary Grove, 2018
6-foot-2, 145-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF with a thin, lanky frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall uptempo delivery with a square landing and some effort. Fastball sat 75-76 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 63-65 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 66-68 mph. Defensively showed raw arm strength throwing 81 mph from the outfield with wild actions. Offensively hits from a wide base with a deep load to backside and early rhythm. 76 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.62.
Logan DeWulf, RHP, Huntley, 2017
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive online delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 76-77 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 66-67 mph. Changeup sat 69-71 mph.
Luke Dunham, RHP, Crystal Lake South, 2017
Strong frame at 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and good tempo. Two-pitch guy. Works downhill with his fastball at 80-83 mph. Curveball showed tight rotation with 12-6 shape at 68-73 mph.
Aidan Earl, RHP, Grant, 2017
5-foot-9, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Threw fastball for strikes at 79-80 mph. Slider showed wipeout potential with good spin at 70-72 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 70-72 mph.
Michael Eleftheriou, RHP, Cary Grove, 2017
XL frame at 6-foot-5, 230-pounds, right-handed pitcher. Works form an over the top arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a high front side. Square landing with smooth rhythm. Fastball sat 78-80 topping out at 81 mph. Threw both offspeed pitches for strikes. Curveball has 12-6 shape with gradual action at 62-65 mph. Changeup showed slight fading action at 70-72 mph.
Evan Geske, RHP, Woodstock, 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long deliberate arm action. Drop and drive delivery works in line with home plate and a square landing. Threw three pitches for strikes. Fastball sat 71 topping out at 73 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 64-65 mph. Changeup showed slight sinking action at 66-67 mph. Will continue to improve with maturity.
Garrett Gillund, C/INF/RHP, McHenry West HS, 2018
Well-proportioned 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting position player and pitcher. Offensively, simple swing with not a lot of wasted movement. Balanced setup, short stride, uphill bat path and average balance through contact. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph. Defensively, flashed steady hands and made a nice run through play on the infield and throws were clocked at 72 mph. Behind the dish, clocked at 67 mph from the crouch and pop times ranged between 2.43-2.54. Also, ran a 5.01 home-to-first. On the mound, repeated his delivery, long arm action, from a high ¾ slot, tall and fall delivery. In-line direction, square landing and an athletic finish. Fastball sat 72-73 mph. Curveball worked 11/5, some feel, short break and ranged between 64-66 mph. Changeup flashed some sink and was clocked at 65-68 mph.
Ian Grubich, RHP/2B, McHenry HS, 2018
Average, lean build, 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound, featured a three-pitch repertoire, quick arm out of an over-the-top window and some rhythm in the delivery. In-line direction, square landing and athletic finish. Curveball was best pitch, tight spin with depth, plus action, worked 12/6 and clocked at 64-67 mph. Fastball thrown for strikes, down in the zone and clocked at 78-80 mph, touching 81. Changeup, slowed arm some and clocked at 69-73 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, deep pre-pitch load with a big leg-lift timing trigger and uphill bat path through the hitting zone. Registered an exit velocity of 78 mph. Defensively, long arm action, over-the-top slot, accurate throws clocked at 77 mph across the infield. Also, ran a 4.84 home-to-first.
Joseph Hansen, RHP, Prairie Ridge, 2018
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball sat 75-79 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with short breaking action at 66-68 mph. Changeup was firm at 74-75 mph.
Kyle Hetherington, OF/LHP, Crystal Lake South, 2019
5-foot-7, 135-pound, left-handed hitting two-way player. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Athletic actions playing thru the ball with quick, fluid footwork and soft hands. Threw 84 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced knee-to-knee setup. Reverse toe tap with a linear lower half. Line drive hitter with a long path and fluid rhythm. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.65. On the mound work from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, loose arm action. Fastball, thrown for strikes, flashed slight cut at times and sat 74-76 mph. Curveball thrown with fastball arm speed, good spin and depth for his age, clocked at 62-63 mph. Changeup, had feel, slight arm-side run and ranged between 69-70 mph. Offensively, started from a balanced setup position, short leg-lift timing trigger and average balance through contact. Long, uphill bat path and a pull approach at the plate. Registered an exit velocity of 74 mph. Defensively, short arm action from a high ¾ slot on the infield. Accurate throws clocked at 74 mph. Also, ran a 4.69 home-to-first.
Christopher Krennrich, LHP, Johnsburg, 2017
5-foot-10, 175-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Struggled with command, arm can drag and miss armside. Fastball flashed running action at 77-79 topping out at 80 mph. Curveball showed sweeping action with short, tight break at 67-71 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with slight sinking action at 68-69 mph.
Nicholas Laxner, RHP, Huntley, 2018
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Smooth rhythm throughout. Fastball showed slight running action at 78-80 topping out at 81 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with some sharpness at 68-69 mph for strikes. Changeup flashed sinking action at 69-71 mph.
Ryan Linkletter, RHP, Johnsburg, 2019
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed pitcher with a lanky frame. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing. Repeats delivery well. Fastball flashed occasional sink at 75-77 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape with tumbling action at 64-68 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with slight sinking action at 70-72 mph for strikes. Will continue to improve with maturity.
Jered Marrs, OF/RHP, Prairie Ridge, 2019
6-foot, 145-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a thin, lanky frame. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Plays thru the ball with quick footwork. Threw 75 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and average balance. Late rhythm with an uphill swing path. 71 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.47. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive delivery with a closed landing and a high front side. Fastball sat 70-72 mph. Slider showed no action at 65-66 mph. Changeup blended with fastball at 69 mph. Will improve with maturity.
Brad Model, LHP, Huntley, 2017
5-foot-8, 150-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with slight crossfire action and smooth rhythm. Showed good balance throughout delivery. Showed feel for three pitches, for strikes. Fastball sat 76-78 mph. Curveball showed 2-8 shape at 67-70 mph. Changeup showed armside run at 71-73 mph.
Nicholas Morris, RHP/3B, McHenry West HS, 2018
Average build 6-foot, 135-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. On the mound, repeated his delivery well and threw three pitches for a strike. Easy effort, some rhythm, in-line direction, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball worked mostly straight at 76-77 mph. Curveball, mainly 12/6 shape with good spin and depth, clocked at 61-62 mph. Changeup flashed sink, located down in the zone and ranged between 65-67 mph. Offensively, balanced, tall setup, toe-tap stride, and long bat path through the hitting zone. Registered an exit velocity of 79 mph. Defensively, clean exchange on the infield. Long arm action, high ¾ slot and clocked at 75 mph across the diamond. Also, ran a 4.93 home-to-first.
Scott Nygren, LHP, Prairie Ridge, 2017
6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed pitcher with a large frame. Works between a high ¾ to over the top arm angle with a short arm action and slight stab on the backside. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball flashed run at 79-80 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape with short breaking action and tight rotation at 71-74 mph. Changeup flashed sink at 73-77 mph.
Blake Ottaviano, 3B/RHP, Huntley HS, 2019
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, short and level bat path at the plate. Balanced, open setup, pre-pitch load, short stride and average balance. Registered an exit velocity of 75 mph. Defensively, reliable hands on the infield. Throws clocked at 66 mph. Also, ran a 5.20 home-to-first. On the mound, some rhythm in his delivery and easy effort. Short arm action from an over-the-top slot. Fastball mostly straight, clocked at 67-68 mph, touching 69. Curveball worked 12/6, ranged between 54-56 mph. Changeup sat 59-62 mph.
James Owens, OF/RHP, Cary Grove, 2018
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Showed off raw arm strength throwing 82 mph from the outfield with some effort. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a heel lift stride and average balance. Gap to gap hitter with a long path and average bat speed. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery with a closed landing. Fastball sat 75-76 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 67-68 mph. Changeup sat 64-68 mph.
Davis Pasco, SS/RHP, Huntley HS, 2019
Lean, projectable build 6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Ran a well-above average home-to-first time for his age, 4.36. Offensively, simple swing and short, uphill bat path. Balanced setup, short stride and average balance. Registered an exit velocity of 71 mph. Defensively, reliable hands, quick and clean release on the infield. Short arm action, threw from multiple arm angles, mainly low ¾’s and clocked at 64 mph across the diamond. On the mound, some rhythm and regular effort in his delivery. Short arm action, out of a high ¾ window and athletic finish. Fastball, slight arm-side-run at times and sat 70-72 mph, touching 73. Curveball worked 11/5, solid shape and ranged between 57-60 mph. Changeup flashed arm-side-run and fade, 64-65 mph.
Jay Patel, RHP, Grant, 2018
6-foot, 162-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, deliberate arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing. Fastball flashed some cutting action at 74-77 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 66-67 mph. Struggled to control changeup at 71-72 mph.
Cole Raines, RHP, Huntley, 2017
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Submariner with a long, loose athletic arm action. Online delivery with a square landing and easy effort. Showed good feel for his pitches down in the zone. Threw strikes down in the zone with his fastball at 70-72 mph. Curveball was deceptive with frisbee action and tight rotation at 60-62 mph.
Cameron Reed, RHP, Huntley, 2017
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed pitcher with a thin, lanky frame. Works from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Drop and drive, uptempo delivery with a high front side and some effort. Showed some command of his fastball that sat 78-79 mph. Curveball was his best pitch, showing 11-5 shape with sharp action and depth at 64-66 mph. Threw changeup for strikes at 70-72 mph.
Mitch Reyes, RHP/OF, Metea Valley, 2017
6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF with a strong frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short stride and square landing. Finishes facing first base. Threw fastball for strikes down in the zone at 78-79 topping out at 81 mph. Gap to gap hitter with an uphill path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 5.04. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Slower actions. Throws showed carry at 80 mph from the outfield.
Keeton Ryza, RHP, Crystal Lake South, 2017
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a headsnap on release. Fastball was heavy at times with running and sinking action for strikes at 78-81 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 to 11-5 shape with gradual action at 66-68 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with fading action at 66-68 mph.
Patrick Schaefer, RHP, Grayslake North, 2017
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and crossfire action. Showed command of his fastball that was heavy at times at 80-83 mph. Commanded curveball with 12-6 shape at 67-71 mph. Changeup flashed sink at 67 mph.
Cooper Schmidt, RHP, Cary Grove, 2019
5-foot-10, 135-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Drop and drive online delivery with easy effort. Fastball sat 70 topping out at 71 mph. Got underneath slider that showed sweeping action at 59-62 mph. Changeup sat 57-61 mph. Will continue to improve with maturity.
Brett Seegers, LHP, Marian Central Catholic, 2017
5-foot-10, 125-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 64-66 mph. Slider showed frisbee action for strikes at 56-57 mph. Changeup blended with fastball at 63-64 mph.
Adam Smylie, LHP, Huntley, 2017
XL, lanky frame at 6-foot-4, 180-pound left-handed pitcher. Works from a low ¾ arm angle, occasionally gets side arm. Drop and drive, online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Smooth rhythm thru delivery. Fastball showed armside run at 75-77 topping out at 78 mph. Got underneath offspeed pitches. Curveball showed sweeping action with short, tight break at 68-70 mph. Changeup sat 69-73 mph.
Jacob Staples, OF/LHP, Crystal Lake Central, 2018
6-foot, 172-pound left-handed hitting OF/LHP. Offensively hits from a crouched, balanced setup with a slight toe tap stride and good balance. Line drive, pull hitter. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Home to first at 4.54. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Clean exchange with average hands. Threw 75 mph from the outfield. On the mound woks from a high ¾ arm angle with a short draw out of the glove. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Three pitch mix for strikes. Fastball showed slight running action at 65-76 mph. Slider showed 2-8 shape with gradual action at 66-67 mph. Changeup sat 70-71 mph.
Alex Weber, RHP, Prairie Ridge, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. Works from an over the top arm angle with short arm action. Drop and drive online delivery with a square landing. Threw fastball for strikes at 72-73 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape with gradual action at 60-63 mph. Got underneath changeup at 66-69 mph.
Grant Yakimisky, SS/RHP, Huntley HS, 2018
Lean build, 6-foot, 150-pound well-proportioned right-handed hitting shortstop and pitcher. Offensively, displayed looseness in hands at times and sprayed balls to all fields. Balanced, tall setup, pre-pitch load, short stride and average balance through contact. Registered an exit velocity of 79 mph. Defensively, flashed athletic actions, steady hands and a quick release on the infield. Ability to throw from multiple angles evidenced on the ball to his glove side. Loose arm action and throws were clocked at 72 mph. Also, ran a 4.81 home-to-first. On the mound, threw strikes and flashed a loose arm out of a high ¾ window. Some rhythm, in-line direction and athletic finish. Fastball worked down in the zone and clocked at 77-79 mph. Curveball, slight downer action, 11/5 action mainly and ranged between 63-65 mph. Lived down in the zone with his changeup, 70-71 mph.
